Book Description
This book is a collection of intriguing mathematical challenges that come from folding paper. All the challenges are the same, fold the corner of the paper to a given dot and find the area that remains uncovered. Despite the same question, a small move of the target dot can drastically change the logic needed to find the solution to the challenge. So the problems become increasingly complex, with possible solutions involving Pythagoras' and similar triangles as well as trigonometry and algebra. Insights learnt from earlier challenges can help with those that follow. However, if at point the challenge becomes too great, the answers can always be found by measurement with a ruler and directly calculating the area. The book encourages curiosity, a "find out what can you" discovery approach that creates interesting and varied journeys towards a solution. Starting with an approximate guess, these journeys are for all ages (10 years and over) to explore and discuss. To play concretely with paper while thinking and reasoning geometrically. Thus, for teachers the book provides a rich source of challenges that have a similar appearance, yet hide an obvious method and require students to choose how to approach the problem. Comparing solution methods when checking the answers is also useful as the solutions highlight some fascinating facts linked with these simple folds.

Digital Cultural Transformation
Author: Donatella Padua
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 303083803X
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 269
Book Description
The hypercomplex digital-technological environment is exponential and revolutionary. Our social mindset adaptation, instead, is slower and evolutionary, as an individual’s or an organization culture needs time to transform. This book offers students, institutions, and organisations innovative and interdisciplinary digital sociology tools to help build an adaptive, flexible, imaginative social mindset in order to cope with such a gap and to match a sustainable digital transformation (DT). By disrupting traditional linear approaches to understand the context into which business models are designed, institutions and students are challenged with innovative transdisciplinary holistic models grounded into business case studies. If the book stimulates students to learn how purposefully and autonomously to explore the web, to grasp the deeper meaning of DT and its social impact, institutions are solicited to answer to direct quests that go right to the core of their transformative DNA as: ‘How effectively are you carrying on DT in a sustainable, people-centred way? Which is your socio-cultural DT profile and what are your DT areas of strength and areas of improvement?' In this frame of work, the innovative Four Paradigm Model indicates new coordinates and provides original tools to profile an institution’s digital transformation strategy, to analyse it, and measure the level of sustainable socio-economic value. Sample syllabi, PowerPoint slides and quizzes are available online to assist in the teaching experience.
