Advanced Phase Change Materials for Thermal Storage
Author: Rocío Bayón
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3036508643
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 112
Book Description
Thermal energy storage using phase change materials (PCMs) is a research topic that has attracted much attention in recent decades. This is mainly due to the potential use of PCMs as latent storage media in a large variety of applications. Although many kinds of PCMs are already commercial products, advanced materials with improved properties and new latent storage concepts are required to better meet the specific requirements of different applications. Moreover, the development of common validation procedures for PCMs is an important issue that should be addressed in order to achieve commercial deployment and implementation of these kinds of materials in latent storage systems. The key subjects addressed on the five papers included in this Special Issue are related to methodologies for material selection, PCM validation and assessment procedures, innovative approaches of PCM applications together with simulation and testing of latent storage prototypes.

Variable Thermal Conductivity Heat Transfer Research for Personal Protective Assemblies
Author: R. B. Olson
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Extravehicular activity (Manned space flight)
Languages : en
Pages : 54
Book Description
In this program a feasibility study was conducted of a conductive cooling system for cooling a man in space. In the concept studied the cooling was provided by a porous plate sublimator and controlled by a variable thermal conductance layer. The results of the tests performed demonstrate the need for advances in technology and further development work to make this concept feasible. (Author).

Energy Optimization in Process Systems and Fuel Cells
Author: Stanislaw Sieniutycz
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0081025580
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 814
Book Description
Energy Optimization in Process Systems and Fuel Cells, Third Edition covers the optimization and integration of energy systems, with a particular focus on fuel cell technology. With rising energy prices, imminent energy shortages, and the increasing environmental impacts of energy production, energy optimization and systems integration is critically important. The book applies thermodynamics, kinetics and economics to study the effect of equipment size, environmental parameters, and economic factors on optimal power production and heat integration. Author Stanislaw Sieniutycz, highly recognized for his expertise and teaching, shows how costs can be substantially reduced, particularly in utilities common in the chemical industry. This third edition contains substantial revisions and modifications, with new material on catalytic reactors, sorption systems, sorbent or catalyst regenerators, dryers, and more. - Presents a unified approach to the optimization and integration of energy systems - Includes a large number of examples treating dynamical systems - Provides exposition showing the power of thermodynamics - Contains a large number of maximum power analyses and their extensions
