Book Description
Supported size-selected metal clusters have attracted considerable interest due to their special catalytic properties. Optical spectroscopy is a powerful method to characterise the electronic and geometrical properties of such systems. However, observing the optical properties of these small clusters is not trivial and highly sensitive techniques such as cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS), a method previously used to study gas phase samples, are required. An experimental apparatus capable of studying the optical properties of support size-selected metal clusters is presented here for the first time. The metal clusters were prepared using a state-of-the-art laser ablation source, and size selected prior to deposition onto an optically transparent support material. CRDS was adapted for the study of solid samples over an extended wavelength range and used to investigate the size dependent optical properties of supported metal clusters.

Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0128098945
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 5276
Book Description
Encyclopedia of Interfacial Chemistry: Surface Science and Electrochemistry, Seven Volume Set summarizes current, fundamental knowledge of interfacial chemistry, bringing readers the latest developments in the field. As the chemical and physical properties and processes at solid and liquid interfaces are the scientific basis of so many technologies which enhance our lives and create new opportunities, its important to highlight how these technologies enable the design and optimization of functional materials for heterogeneous and electro-catalysts in food production, pollution control, energy conversion and storage, medical applications requiring biocompatibility, drug delivery, and more. This book provides an interdisciplinary view that lies at the intersection of these fields. Presents fundamental knowledge of interfacial chemistry, surface science and electrochemistry and provides cutting-edge research from academics and practitioners across various fields and global regions

Metallic Glasses
Author: Behrooz Movahedi
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 9535125117
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 180
Book Description
Metallic glasses and amorphous materials have attracted much more attention in the last two decades. A noncrystalline solid produced by continuous cooling from the liquid state is known as a glass. From the other point of view, a noncrystalline material, obtained by any other process, for example, vapor deposition or solid-state processing methods such as mechanical alloying, but not directly from the liquid state, is referred to as an amorphous material. At this moment, bulk metallic glasses (BMG) are appearing as a new class of metallic materials with unique physical and mechanical properties for structural and functional usage. Extreme values of strength, fracture toughness, magnetic properties, corrosion resistance, and other properties have been registered in BMG materials.
