Book Description
Open Banking is an emerging and high-profile area in financial services. There is a 'market forces' definition of Open Banking. It refers to the use of Open APIs that enable third-party Developers to build applications and services around banks. There is also a 'regulatory' definition of Open Banking, focused on greater transparency and choices for bank account holders which is being enforced by regulators. Some commentators suggest that Open Banking could cure many ills in modern banking. The emerging Open Banking environment is often described as an Ecosystem. Healthy ecosystems have viable populations of various interacting species, ecosystem diversity, a constant evolutionary process and sufficient evolutionary potential. The potential interactions in an Open Banking Ecosystem interests many investors and entrepreneurs. Within existing banks, corporate strategists, technology specialists, business unit leaders and risk managers are also examining its impact on the landscape of financial services. As an Open Banking Ecosystem emerges, a central question must be the capability of existing banks to adapt and evolve into this new environment. Open Banking Strategy Formation examines the forces that are likely to influence the evolution of Open Banking at an industry level. The transition of the industry to Open Banking will come from a patchwork of deliberate and reactive changes by existing and emerging market participants. Open Banking Strategy Formation will help existing and new market participants to judge how and when their businesses can become part of the Open Banking Ecosystem.

Book Description
Master's Thesis from the year 2022 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: 1,0, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) (Department of Finance and Banking), language: English, abstract: This master thesis investigates the influencing factors on consumers’ willingness to share their personal and financial information through open-banking technology in different financing and lending scenarios (e-commerce, car financing, and mortgage). To achieve this, a survey-based empirical study was conducted, covering a variety of questions regarding demographic factors as well as measured preferences and stances along the dimensions of tech-savviness, open-banking knowledge, privacy concerns and financial literacy. The analysis of over 143 survey responses shows how these factors influence and explain, to what extent and under which conditions a consumer is willing to let a company digitally take a direct look into his bank account. The gained results and insights provide a basis to define best practices and use cases for scenarios in which open-banking technology can add value to all parties involved. Since January 12th, 2016, the EU's second payment services directive (PSD2) has been in force. A key point within the PSD2 is the obligation of banks to make the information of their customers and their associated bank accounts available to third parties via standardized interfaces. A concept that is widely referred to as open-banking. One major field of application of open-banking technology lies within consumer credit application processes. The main idea is that lenders (financial institutions as well as non-financial / retail companies) can get access to the information contained in bank accounts, such as transaction history and balances, by explicit consent of the consumer. The purpose of this is to make more informed decisions as to whether or not to extend credit to the specific person in scope.

Book Description
This book provides both practice-oriented and academic insights into the disruptive power of fintech for the banking industry. It explores (1) whether and how the banking industry can use newly emerging technologies in the financial sphere to its advantage while managing any associated risks, (2) how these technologies affect traditional banking service formats as well as the pricing of these services, and (3) whether the emergence of fintech in the banking industry calls for a rethinking of existing banking regulations such as the Basel Accords as well as country-specific regulations. Prior publications in this area typically examine both current applications of fintech in the banking industry, as well as its future prospects, by analyzing actual cases or exploring the impact of a single emerging technology on the banking industry. They often ignore the interdependence between emerging technologies and overlook the connection between fintech as a whole and the future of the banking industry. This book addresses this gap by providing a comprehensive overview of various fintech applications and by analyzing what they mean for the future of banking. Given the potentially disruptive power of fintech, the book will focus on the challenges banking supervisors are likely to encounter as a result of fintech’s continual ascent. It will thus encourage readers to think about and explore how to find a balance between the beneficial aspects of fintech and the challenges it creates in terms of supervision, regulation, and risk management.

Book Description
How smart companies are opening up strategic initiatives to involve front-line employees, experts, suppliers, customers, entrepreneurs, and even competitors. Why are some of the world’s most successful companies able to stay ahead of disruption, adopting and implementing innovative strategies, while others struggle? It’s not because they hire a new CEO or expensive consultants but rather because these pioneering companies have adopted a new way of strategizing. Instead of keeping strategic deliberations within the C-Suite, they open up strategic initiatives to a diverse group of stakeholders—front-line employees, experts, suppliers, customers, entrepreneurs, and even competitors. Open Strategy presents a new philosophy, key tools, step-by-step advice, and fascinating case studies—from companies that range from Barclays to Adidas—to guide business leaders in this groundbreaking approach to strategy. The authors—business-strategy experts from both academia and management consulting—introduce tools for each of the three stages of strategy-making: idea generation, plan formulation, and implementation. These are digital tools (including strategy contests), which allow the widest participation; hybrid digital/in-person tools (including a “nightmare competitor challenge”); a workshop tool that gamifies the business model development process; and tools that help companies implement and sustain open strategy efforts. Open strategy has an astonishing track record: a survey of 200 business leaders shows that although open-strategy techniques were deployed for only 30 percent of their initiatives, those same initiatives generated 50 percent of their revenues and profits. This book offers a roadmap for this kind of success.
