Book Description
This newly translated volume of the Collected Works of Marie-Louise von Franz, one of the most renowned authorities on fairytales, presents a systematic and wide-ranging approach. Von Franz amplifies a variety of fairytale motifs to show that the magical realm is alien to the profane and mundane realm of ordinary daily life. She was one of Analytical Psychology’s most original thinkers and here she presents a lucid, concise exploration of the archetypal symbols found in fairytales. Fairytales, like myths, provide a cultural and societal backdrop that helps the human imagination narrate the meaning of life’s events. The remarkable similarities in fairytale motifs across different lands and cultures inspired many scholars to search for the original homeland of fairytales. While peregrinations of fairytale motifs occur, the common root of fairytales is more archetypal than geographic. A striking feature of fairytales is that a sense of space, time, and causality is absent. This situates them in a magical realm, a land of the soul, where the most interesting things happen in the center of places like Heaven, mountains, lakes, and wells. At the age of eighteen, Marie-Louise von Franz was invited to meet Carl Gustav Jung at Bolingen Tower. She immediately recognized that there exist two levels of reality, one outer and the other inner. Within months she had enrolled at the University of Zürich and began attending Jung’s lectures at the E.T.H. (Eidgenösiche Technische Hochshule or the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology). Less than a decade after meeting Jung, von Franz had completed her doctorate in classical philology and begun seeing her first analysands. She was a prolific writer, a dedicated teacher and lecturer, and was possessed of a “far-reaching and often non discriminating Eros that accepted everyone seeking help.” (Alfred Ribi, MD in Fountain of the Love of Wisdom, Chiron, 2006)

Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 357
Book Description
Herein you will find 25 of Europe’s finest and most popular fairy tales. This was the sixth and last time that the famous folklorist Joseph Jacobs teamed up with the equally famous illustrator John D. Batten to produce yet another volume of exquisite fairy tales. Not only exquisitely told, but also exquisitely illustrated with 48 BnW illustrations. Created especially for his granddaughter, Peggy, here you will find the tales like: Snowhite, Beauty and the Beast, The Cinder-Maid, All Change, The King Of The Fishes, Scissors, Reynard And Bruin, The Dancing Water, The Singing Apple And The Speaking Bird, The Earl Of Cattenborough, The Unseen Bridegroom, The Master-Maid and many more. In this volume Jacobs brought together these well-known Folk-Tales of Europe, retold in such a way as to bring out the original form from which all the variants were derived. So if the tales herein seem a little different to the tales you remember, it’s because these have been retranslated with more of the original has been retained, with regional and national variations being kept to an absolute minimum. This may lead to children crying out "That was not the way you told us before." That’s because these tales are closer to the originals than previously published. In explanation, Jacobs has included sixty eight pages of explanatory notes detailing his methodology and the differences. Category : Fiction

Pages : 190
Book Description
Juliette’s arguably got the hottest boyfriend ever and the coolest life to go along with it. She’s in her second year at Crescent City Academy of Magics. Forget Penn State. It’s much cooler being a necromancer and a witch, both at the same time. She’s one of those rare duals. And life’s perfect. Or is it? Nah, it’s not. Life’s complicated. Starting with a new necromancer student at the academy who is hellbent on irritating her, though one could argue that he’s hot. Not for her though. There’s no way she’d be interested in anyone but her shifter boyfriend, Jackson. What else could go wrong in her life, though, right? Lots of stuff. Starting with finding out who murdered her mother. Avoiding her homicidal father. Hiding that she’s been studying forbidden spells. Oh, yeah. Juliette’s going to have an interesting second year at Crescent City Academy of Magics.
