Book Description
Has Singapore been living up to its call as the Antioch of Asia? What happens when churches carry out their missions programs without partnering with missions organisations? Is it healthy for churches to apply popular trends or ideas in missions across different cultural fields? In On Being the Antioch of Asia, W. M. Syn speaks to 60 missions leaders and pastors about the health of mission practices in Singapore's churches. While churches seem to be embracing Singapore's call to be the Antioch of Asia by sending out more missionaries, their lack of partnership with missions organisations and short-term strategies has also led to a host of problems that are negatively affecting the Singapore mission system. This book examines the effectiveness of popular trends and ideas in missions, highlights areas that need strengthening, and proposes a new model of missions partnership between local churches and agencies in order to enable Singapore to fulfil its call as the Antioch of Asia effectively.

Book Description
This study examines the letters of this bishop-martyr as products of both Antiochene and Roman Asian influences. After an overview of scholarship on Ignatius, there is an examination of the Christian situations in Antioch and Asia. The writer concludes that relations were troubled between Ignatius and other Christians in Antioch and that the circumstances of his martyrdom included Ignatius having given himself up to the authorities. The emerging catholic tradition, which Ignatius represented, was among a variety of Christianities, whose identities are considered in chapter five. The Ignatian letters preserve interesting parallels with Matthean, Johannine and Pauline thought, as well as with the language and ideas of IV Maccabees and of later Gnosticism. Attention is also given to the possible influence on Ignatius and his opponents of the Didathe, the letter of Clement to the Corinthians and of the Apocalypse.

Book Description
In our post 9/11 world where there is a growing religious fundamentalism, and when both exclusion and easy tolerance are inadequate options, this book offers a creative alternative arguing that Pentecostalism has the potential to be a peaceful harbinger of plurality. The potential lies in its spirituality - a lively pneumatology and eschatology. The eschatological Spirit is seen as orientated towards the other, crossing boundaries in redemptive embrace, transcending exclusion and easy tolerance. This book's non-Western perspective and the empirical contextual study of Singapore's multicultural and multi-faith context are unique contributions to religion and society. This is a book for students, pastors, teachers, and theologians concerned for an approach to mission that is sensitive to their context, who want to learn from a creative theological voice from what has been perhaps the largest religious movement in history, and who see the immense potential in lively theology by Christians of the Chinese diaspora who can speak to the many millions of ethnic Chinese Christians. This book will also appeal to those outside Christianity who are interested in its attempts to engage with a complex multi-ethnic and multi-religious situation such as that in Singapore.

Book Description
This booklet arises out of both a testimony of a local Church (the writer's 'Home Church' -- Waverley Christian Fellowship), as well as some Scriptural principles concerning a New Testament local Church (the Church of Antioch). The Book of Acts shows the Lord building His Church as He promised He would. In Acts, as the Church grew, four major geographical locations of Church expansion are seen. These geographical locations were Jerusalem, then Antioch, and then Ephesus and Thessalonica. The Lord used Jerusalem as the original Church to spread the Gospel through Jerusalem, then Judea and Samaria and then to Antioch. The Lord used Antioch to spread the Gospel among many Gentile cities, especially seen in Paul's great missionary journeys out from Antioch. Ephesus became a great centre for the spread of the Word throughout all Asia and its regions. Then Thessalonica became a great Church spreading the Gospel word to all Macedonia and Achaia and regions around. Two Churches, however, are seen to be "key" Churches - Jerusalem and Antioch, the Churches with special emphasis for Jews and Gentiles. In 1989, the word of the lord came to the writer as the then Senior Minister of Waverley Christian Fellowship saying:"Waverley Christian Fellowship is to maintain the foundational principles laid down in the church at Jerusalem, but not to allow the spirit and attitude that crept into the church at Jerusalem to get into Waverley Christian Fellowship. Waverley as a Christian Fellowship, is to be like the Church at Antioch". This word caused the writer to seek the Lord and search the Scriptures as to what the Lord meant by it. This booklet is the result of that searching of the word. In 1994, the role of senior minister of W.C.F. was given to my son, Mark Conner, along with his wife, Nicole. It is worthy of comment, that, although the leadership has changed, and the style of leadership varies, the vision remains the same, but continues to enlarge and expand itself into greater fulfilment as the lord continues to direct.Because truth is applicable to each generation, the writer believes that the principles set out here can be of help to any minister and local church, especially to those called to be "an Antioch church". It is sent forth with prayer and a sense of destiny as well as being a testimony founded on scriptural principles of a church that desires to be "like the Church at Antioch".

Book Description
Two thousand years ago, Antioch on the Orontes River was the third most important city in the Roman Empire. Today, it is a small Turkish town of 200,000 inhabitants whose visitors may find it difficult to imagine this place at its peak. This book is a biography of Antioch — or Antakiyye of the Arabs, or Antakya of the Turks. It is a description of its youth under the Seleucid Dynasty, its adolescence under the Romans, the Byzantines, and the Norman Crusaders, and its long decline under the Marmelukes and the Ottomans. Antioch on the Orontes will also guide the reader through modern-day Antioch, highlighting significant historical sites. The book contains an introduction to theological developments in Antioch that have influenced Christendom and covers the many religions represented in the city today.
