Book Description
When the Omnis set out to create a race of intelligent life-forms (ILFs), they were faced with a terrible choice of giving the gift of freewill or creating a world of robotic-like beings. The danger was that with freewill, the ILFs could fall prey to the deadly CXV virus. This highly invasive virus would take away the ILFs mental clarity and their ability to contact the Exalted Ones who had given them life. The Omnis made their decision, and as time passed, the virus began to attack Heosphoros. Expecting a reaction from the Omnis and getting none, Heosphoros became more outspoken. Their silence convinced him that he had a cause. “I refuse to put up with being ignored by the Omnis!” he muttered to himself. “I can’t tolerate being in their presence any longer. I’m staying away from them from now on….” After leaving the Omnis, he told the Emmsis, “Since we belong to an order of ILFs who are much superior in our capabilities, we do not need these restraints. Our mental faculties far exceed theirs. Our thoughts follow the Omnis’ thoughts. It is impossible for us to spoil the cosmos by being disorderly. We really need not be concerned with CXV!”

The Omni-americans
Author: Albert Murray
Publisher: Da Capo Press
ISBN: 9780306803956
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 240
Book Description
The Omni-Americans is a classic collection of wickedly incisive essays, commentaries, and reviews on politics, literature, and music. Provocative and compelling, Albert Murray debunks the "so-called findings and all-too-inclusive extrapolations of social science survey technicians," contending that "human nature is no less complex and fascinating for being encased in dark skin." His claim that blacks have produced "the most complicated culture, and therefore the most complicated sensibility in the western world" is elucidated in a book which, according to Walker Percy, "fits no ideology, resists all abstractions, offends orthodox liberals and conservatives, attacks social scientists and Governor Wallace in the same breath, sees all the faults of the country, and holds out hope in the end."

The Long Arm of Moore's Law
Author: Cyrus C. M. Mody
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 0262341417
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 300
Book Description
How, beginning in the mid 1960s, the US semiconductor industry helped shape changes in American science, including a new orientation to the short-term and the commercial. Since the mid 1960s, American science has undergone significant changes in the way it is organized, funded, and practiced. These changes include the decline of basic research by corporations; a new orientation toward the short-term and the commercial, with pressure on universities and government labs to participate in the market; and the promotion of interdisciplinarity. In this book, Cyrus Mody argues that the changes in American science that began in the 1960s co-evolved with and were shaped by the needs of the “civilianized” US semiconductor industry. In 1965, Gordon Moore declared that the most profitable number of circuit components that can be crammed on a single silicon chip doubles every year. Mody views “Moore's Law” less as prediction than as self-fulfilling prophecy, pointing to the enormous investments of capital, people, and institutions the semiconductor industry required—the “long arm” of Moore's Law that helped shape all of science. Mody offers a series of case studies in microelectronics that illustrate the reach of Moore's Law. He describes the pressures on Stanford University's electrical engineers during the Vietnam era, IBM's exploration of alternatives to semiconductor technology, the emergence of consortia to integrate research across disciplines and universities, and the interwoven development of the the molecular electronics community and associated academic institutions as the vision of a molecular computer informed the restructuring of research programs.

Phenomena
Author: Rob MacGregor
Publisher: Crossroad Press
ISBN:
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 238
Book Description
As humanity’s collective consciousness evolves and expands, more of us are experiencing phenomena—voices no one else hears, visions no one else sees, intense intuitive feelings that presage the future or enable us to telepathically connect to loved ones. Some of us communicate with the dead, see interdimensional beings, claim to have been abducted by aliens. And some of us experience synchronicities that defy the odds. Are we outliers? Or are we, as a growing number of psychiatrists, scientists, and researchers now recognize, tapping into a matrix of reality far more vast and complex than what science currently recognizes?
