Book Description
LONG STRETCHES IN THE SLAMMER CAN MAKE THE AMATEUR HUSTLER TAPOUT AND CALL IT QUITS. Not Fool, tho. He's a decorated vet from the original war on drugs. After his recent release, he touches back down in his old 'hood with a new plug and a game plan to lay a new pipeline, and he doesn't waste any time making his presence felt among the local heavies. At the moment, it just so happens that the heaviest local of them all is Fool's twin brother, RunThang. He's another combat veteran from way back when crack first hit the streets like a terrorist attack, and heroin was causing more casualties than a suicide bomber. Back in those days, the twins were the main perpetrators pumping up those statistics. It's never been a secret around the 'hood that Fool was the twin born with the brains, but RunThang popped out of the pussy holding most of the muscle. Eventually, jealousy and old grudges split that family bond, and to nobody's surprise, RunThang doesn't welcome his twin brother home with open arms. Just as gang jump-ins only work on pipsqueaks and peons, OG status only works in the movies. In the real gangland of the streets, loyalties line up behind the man who can bake the most bread and feed the block. But out-of-sight means out-of-mind, and while Fool has been M.I.A. for six long years, RunThang has a crew of young soldiers he's been keeping well fed. When it comes to the crumbs on their table, competition is never welcomed, always frowned upon, and they won't hesitate to greet the twin with hollow points and buckshots.

Book Description
After a bitter and humiliating breakup, Charlie Vernon lives not-quite-alone in his Capitol Hill town house. He kept Mamie, the cockapoo that he and Freddie adopted together, but he’s just arrived home to find he’s been visited by thieves…and they’ve taken Mamie. For the next thirty-six hours, he and his family of choice—a pair of rhyming lesbians, a Georgia-born man who might be married to a sex addict, and the hostess of DC’s hottest Drag Bingo—will band together to search for Mamie. What’s at stake isn’t just a beloved dog, but whether Charlie will be brave enough to love anything or anyone, ever again. “Eric Peterson’s debut novel is a heartwarming and charming tale of love, loss, community, and self-discovery featuring man’s best friends of the two- and four-legged kind. A delightful read.” —Michael Nava, Lambda Literary Award-winning author of Lies With Man

Book Description
A smile, a dance, some flirtatious banter—and witty heiress Luciana Piccolo was swept off her feet. Literally. When a mysterious, gorgeous woman whisks her onto the dance floor at her father’s masquerade ball, Lucy is thrilled to break the shackles of her privileged but purposeless life. But when the same woman kidnaps her and whisks her to the hideout of the rebels fighting to topple the regime she’s set to inherit, Lucy isn’t thrilled to be actually shackled as a prisoner. She is forced to accompany her abductor—a laconic, rigid assassin named Taylor—across the war-torn regions of the former United States as Taylor carries out perilous assassinations and leads the growing rebel army. Relying on each other to stay alive, the antagonistic spark between Lucy and Taylor smolders into an ardent flame. Secrets unravel and the stakes get fatally higher, as the battle between new love and old loyalty may prove more dangerous than the war they’re trying to survive.

Book Description
One of the most common—and wounding—misconceptions about literary scholars today is that they simply don’t love books. While those actually working in literary studies can easily refute this claim, such a response risks obscuring a more fundamental question: why should they? That question led Deidre Shauna Lynch into the historical and cultural investigation of Loving Literature. How did it come to be that professional literary scholars are expected not just to study, but to love literature, and to inculcate that love in generations of students? What Lynch discovers is that books, and the attachments we form to them, have played a vital role in the formation of private life—that the love of literature, in other words, is deeply embedded in the history of literature. Yet at the same time, our love is neither self-evident nor ahistorical: our views of books as objects of affection have clear roots in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century publishing, reading habits, and domestic history. While never denying the very real feelings that warm our relationship to books, Loving Literature nonetheless serves as a riposte to those who use the phrase “the love of literature” as if its meaning were transparent. Lynch writes, “It is as if those on the side of love of literature had forgotten what literary texts themselves say about love’s edginess and complexities.” With this masterly volume, Lynch restores those edges and allows us to revel in those complexities.

Readers and scholars of the rising generation may not follow Parrington’s particular judgments or point of view, but it is hard to believe that they will not still be captivated and inspired by his sparkle, his daring, and the ardor of his political commitment. In Volume II, The Romantic Revolution in America, 1800 - 1860, Parrington treats such influential figures as John Marshall, John C. Calhoun, Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Washington Irving, James Fenimore Cooper, Herman Melville, Daniel Webster, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Nathaniel Hawthorne
