Book Description
A true story seen through the eyes of a young girl who had no time to be a child, as she and her father sidestepped the German invasion of Western Europe in World War II, only to end up in the middle of the Japanese invasion of the Netherlands East Indies. The earliest recollections are as a whisper of the past, but recall becomes crisp and sharp as tensions of war become etched in photographic memory. The accuracy of detail is supported by extensive research. A perplexing voyage from Belgium took them through warring France and on a mail-boat to Java. During the Japanese occupation, her father was taken to Kanchanaburi Thailand, and the Japanese army and later Indonesian terrorists imprisoned her, her mother, and her younger brother. Optimism of youth, a strong bond between her and her younger brother, friendships throughout, and the Morning Glories made it bearable.

2nd Sunday Morning Glory
Author: Jane Ann Crenshaw
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN: 1098009061
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 386
Book Description
In the absence of the preacher, Jim the elder was called to visit a woman who had lost her husband. She was desolate and was threatening to commit suicide! Jim was called by a mother of a child who attended the Sunday school. I went with him that morning. As we drove to this home, Jim was at a loss as to what he could do or say. This was something out of his realm of expertise! We had prayed before we left the house, but Jim was anxious! God was putting this woman's life in his hands! I picked up the Bible from the console and said, "Maybe I can find a verse that will help you!" I opened the Bible randomly, and a verse jumped right out at me. I read it to him, "For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour, what you ought to say!" (Luke 12:12, NIV). As we pulled up in front of her house, Jim said, "Mark that page!" We quietly walked into this home. Jim was directed to the woman in need. He talked with her, prayed with her, and read the scriptures of comfort and encouragement. He was with her a long time! When the situation became calm, we took our leave, and the woman who contemplated suicide continued to live. We never heard if she made a place for the Lord in her life, but we knew that He had taken up permanent residence in ours! We felt it! We saw it! We were lifted by His might and encouraged to keep on keeping on. God is real!

Book Description
I was seventy when I began Morning Glory, and now I am seventy-nine years old. I come from a family of fourteen children: seven boys and seven girls. The boys' name started with L and the girls with J. I was the tenth child, born in Council Bluffs, Iowa! I grew up in Lawndale, California, and presently live in Klamath Falls, Oregon. I am married to Jim and have a son, Dan, and a daughter, Jennifer. I also have three grandsons who are a gift from God in my old age. Teaching God's word is what I have loved to do since I was eighteen years old! I love being married, being a mom, and a grandma! God has rewarded me with sharing my memories of struggles and joys of a fleshly life, all the time aspiring to become the woman God wanted me to be. Morning Glory became an outlet to remember my past and became an instrument for my well-being in Jesus Christ. To God, I give the honor and the glory in all of heaven and in all the earth!

Morning Glory
Author: Samuel Charles Poteat III
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1490898441
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 189
Book Description
In his book, Sam shares how God personally and radically intersects a persons life. When God enters our lives, it involves more than just a change in eternal destination, but also a vital transformation of the heart. After God initiates a faith relationship with Himself, He begins to teach us about Himself and how we are to relate to Him through His Word, through His Holy Spirit, and through everyday occurrences in the life of His child. In his book, Sam again and again relates to us how God works in our lives through the inspiration of His Word. Each devotion is about everyday experiences. Each one makes a specific application to Gods Word. The singular purpose of God in the life of His child is to conform us to the image of His Son. He accomplishes this as His Word is applied to our everyday lives. These devotions communicate to us the simplicity along with the profoundness of a loving Father manifesting His life and purposes to His child. Steve Poteat, pastor, Lake Martin Baptist Church

Morning Glory, Evening Shadow
Author: Gordon Chang
Publisher: Stanford University Press
ISBN: 9780804780896
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 596
Book Description
This book has a dual purpose. The first is to present a biography of Yamato Ichihashi, a Stanford University professor who was one of the first academics of Asian ancestry in the United States. The second purpose is to present, through Ichihashi’s wartime writings, the only comprehensive first-person account of internment life by one of the 120,000 persons of Japanese ancestry who, in 1942, were sent by the U.S. government to “relocation centers,” the euphemism for prison camps. Arriving in the United States from Japan in 1894, when he was sixteen, Ichihashi attended public school in San Francisco, graduated from Stanford University, and received a doctorate from Harvard University. He began teaching at Stanford in 1913, specializing in Japanese history and government, international relations, and the Japanese American experience. He remained at Stanford until he and his wife, Kei, were forced to leave their campus home for a series of internment camps, where they remained until the closing days of the war.
