Book Description
Excerpt from Oceanography of the Mid-Atlantic Bight in Support of Icnaf: September-December 1967 Using data from various sources, Bigelow (1933) gave a description of the temperature cycle for the mid-atlantic Bight waters. Sur face cooling and intense mixing of the vertical column occur over the shelf during the winter months. Shelf water temperatures reach a minimum during February and March. This minimum is followed by vernal warming oc curring more rapidly inshore and at the sur face. A thermocline of increasing steepness is developed as the warming season progresses. The thermocline is steepest in mid-september, after which autumnal cooling begins and the cycle is repeated. Daily water temperature and salinity at 13 locations along the Atlantic sea board were tabulated for 1966 and 1967 by Chase' The temperature cycles are depicted graphically in an atlas of monthlysea temperatures from the Florida Keys to Cape Cod (walford and Wickland. Book Description
This book breaks new ground with the integration of geography, oceanography, plankton and benthic biology, as well as fish, to present a comprehensive account of the ecology of the tropical ocean. Proceeding from a description of the geomorphology, sediments, and vegetation of tropical continental shelves and the oceanography of tropical regions, the authors describe the benthos, plankton, and fish communities of tropical seas. An examination of the production of plant and animal life in tropical oceans is presented together with the numerical population biology of fish and invertebrates.

Book Description
The California Current System is one of the best studied ocean regions of the world, and the level of oceanographic information available is perhaps only surpassed by the northeast and northwest Atlantic. The current literature (later than 1993) offers no comprehensive, integrated review of the regional fisheries oceanography of the California Current System. This volume summarizes information of more than 60-year California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigation (CalCOFI). While providing a large bibliography, the intent was to extract themes relevant to current research rather than to prepare a compendious review of the literature. The work presents a useful review and reference point for multidisciplinary fisheries scientists and biological oceanographers new to working in the California Current System, and to specialists wishing to access information outside their core areas of expertise. In addition it aims to deliver an up to date reference to the current state of knowledge of fisheries oceanography in the California Current System.
