Aujourd'hui, les pays les plus avances disposent d'une vision ou d'objectifs de securite routiere, ou des deux, pour les aider a rendre les routes plus sures. En raison des resultats satisfaisants et bien documentes obtenus, tant sur le plan quantitatif que qualitatif, par des pays comme la Grande-Bretagne par suite de l'introduction de programmes d'objectifs de securite routiere, les pays serieusement determines a ameliorer leur dossier a ce chapitre sont pratiquement contraint de mettre en place un programme cible de securite routiere. On trouvera un sommaire des visions et des objectifs de securite routiere adoptes dans les pays membres de l'Organisation de cooperation et de developpement economiques (OCDE) aux annexes A et B. L'objet du present document est de rendre compte des ameliorations du degre de securite routiere survenues depuis l'introduction du plan Vision securite routiere en 1996, par suite des initiatives et des programmes mis en oeuvre a l'appui de la Vision, et de proposer l'adoption d'un nouveau plan assorti d'objectifs precis. On espere que l'integration des objectifs dans le nouveau plan saura susciter d'adhesion des intervenants de la securite routiere et du grand public, en plus de donner au milieu de la securite routiere du Canada l'elan voulu pour concretiser sa Vision en dotant le pays des routes les plus sures au monde.
