Purpose of the present report and summary of its results. In Report I a mathematical basis was laid for the numerical solution of flow problems in rivers. The ultimate aim is to carry out numerically the solution of a flood problem for the Ohio River in a concrete case by using an appropriate digital computer, to compare the results with the observations, and, in general, to study the feasibility of such methods of attacking this type of problem; in addition, the problem of floods at the Junction of the Ohio and the Mississippi, and problems concerning the regulation of the Tennessee River through controls at the Kentucky Dam are to be solved numerically. In all of these cases it is necessary to make use of a considerable bulk of observational data - cross-sections and slopes of the channels, measurements of river depths and discharges as functions of time and distance down the river, drainage areas, observed flows from tributaries, etc. - in order to obtain the information necessary to fix the coefficients of the differential equations derived in Report I and to fix the initial and boundary conditions.
