Finite Difference Calculations for Hydrodynamic Flows Containing Discontinuities (Classic Reprint)
Author: Samuel Z. Burstein
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781334016691
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 50
Book Description
Excerpt from Finite Difference Calculations for Hydrodynamic Flows Containing Discontinuities However severe difficulties were encountered in the numerical calculation of the detached shock problem. The solution of these difficulties shed light on the behavior of the difference equations and, in return, on the nature of the oscillations encountered in the Mach reflection calculation. Numerical Simulation of Viscous Shocked Accretion Flows Around Black Holes
Author: Kinsuk Giri
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319095404
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 148
Book Description
The work developed in this thesis addresses very important and relevant issues of accretion processes around black holes. Beginning by studying the time variation of the evolution of inviscid accretion discs around black holes and their properties, the author investigates the change of the pattern of the flows when the strength of the shear viscosity is varied and cooling is introduced. He succeeds to verify theoretical predictions of the so called Two Component Advective Flow (TCAF) solution of the accretion problem onto black holes through numerical simulations under different input parameters. TCAF solutions are found to be stable. And thus explanations of spectral and timing properties (including Quasi-Period Oscillations, QPOs) of galactic and extra-galactic black holes based on shocked TCAF models appear to have a firm foundation.

Blast Waves
Author: Charles E. Needham
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319653822
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 424
Book Description
This book examines blast waves—their methods of generation, their propagation in several dimensions through the real atmosphere and layered gases, and their interactions with simple structures—thereby providing a broad overview of the field. The intended audience has a basic knowledge of algebra and a good grasp of the concepts of conservation of mass and energy. The text includes an introduction to blast wave terminology and conservation laws, and there is a discussion of units and the importance of consistency. This new edition of Blast Waves has been thoroughly updated and includes two new chapters that cover numerical hydrodynamics and blast injury. Authored by an expert with over forty years of experience in the field of blast and shock, this book offers many lessons as well as a historical perspective on developments in the field.
