Book Description
This book is the story of five contiguous seventy-five year periods of history. They start in 1404 with the demise of the Middle Ages and end in 1779 with the beginnings of the Age of Enlightenment. In between, they contain the European Renaissance and the Scientific Revolution. Not your usual history book, however. My autobiography titled “It’s All About Me” has a subtitle “A Rather Ordinary Life in Some Extraordinary Times.” This book tells the story of each of those seventy-five year periods through the eyes of a fictional character who lived a rather ordinary life in those extraordinary times. The book focuses more on the How and Why of history and not so much on the What, When, Where, and Who. The How and Why are always more interesting, and the others are included when needed to help complete the picture. Enjoy the ride.

Book Description
A novel treatment of the capacity for shared attention, joint action, and perceptual common knowledge. In The Shared World, Axel Seemann offers a new treatment of the capacity to perceive, act on, and know about the world together with others. Seemann argues that creatures capable of joint attention stand in a unique perceptual and epistemic relation to their surroundings; they operate in an environment that they, through their communication with their fellow perceivers, help constitute. Seemann shows that this relation can be marshaled to address a range of questions about the social aspect of the mind and its perceptual and cognitive capacities. Seemann begins with a conceptual question about a complex kind of sociocognitive phenomenon—perceptual common knowledge—and develops an empirically informed account of the spatial structure of the environment in and about which such knowledge is possible. In the course of his argument, he addresses such topics as demonstrative reference in communication, common knowledge about jointly perceived objects, and spatial awareness in joint perception and action.

Julian Anderson is renowned internationally as one of the leading composers of his generation. This substantial book of conversations with the scholar and critic Christopher Dingle captures Anderson's thoughts and memories in-depth for the first time, not only providing biographical information and background material, but also capturing the workings of a remarkable mind. It is rare to find a composer prepared to speak extensively and honestly on as broad a range of topics as Anderson. These extraordinarily diverse conversations range far beyond his own compositions and even beyond the sphere of music, exploring issues of broad cultural interest.

Book Description
What leads a young lawyer to change his successful career in Madrid for a life dedicated to others in Ethiopia? For Paco Moreno, author of these moving pages, his future was well established: a graduate in law, he set up his own office and from a very young age enjoyed a privileged economic situation. However, by chance, or perhaps motivated by a need to give something back in exchange for his good fortune, he travelled as a volunteer to Ethiopia and was never the same person again. He observed there that the nomadic tribes of the region do not have enough water and that the girls can not go to school because every day they have to travel a long way along the scorching desert sand to fill their containers. And he saw how those people, babies, children, pregnant mothers and the elderly, died from malnutrition or from diseases that he believed had been totally eradicated. Paco Moreno then insisted on returning more and more frequently, and finally founded an NGO, Amigos de Silva, in Afar, the hottest region in the world. In return, he has found his place in this world. This book, winner of the first edition of the Feel Good Award, is a testimony of what it means to give something back, and it details the reasons why doing so can make us happy.
