Book Description
In Natural Law and Civil Sovereignty new research by leading international scholars is brought to bear on a single crucial issue: the role of early modern natural law doctrines in reconstructing the relations between moral right and civil authority in the face of profound religious and political conflict. In addition to providing fresh insights into the hard-fought struggle to legitimate a desacralised civil order, the book also shows the degree to which the legitimacy of the modern secular state remains dependent on this decisive set of developments.

Book Description
"Liberty Fund presents the first modern edition of The Principles of Natural and Politic Law, based on the posthumous unified edition of 1763. The unidentified quotes and recurrent borrowings that abound in the second volume have for the first time been identified. The editor, Petter Korkman, writes that it is not an overstatement "to declare that a solid acquaintance with the Principle will provide the reader with essential...background for understanding the moral and political thought of the mature Enlightenment, whether in its European settings or in the newly formed United States.""--BOOK JACKET.

Book Description
From a hidden spark in the early days of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic soon roared across every nation, decimating lives, economies, and social norms. Rather than uniting people to defeat a common enemy, the pandemic has widened economic, political, and social divisions everywhere. It has pitted faith against reason and inflamed the global scourges of poverty, racism, war, and environmental destruction. The pandemic has also surfaced proposals to remake the global economy and society. Most notable--and infamous--are a set of recommendations from the 2020 World Economic Forum calling for "the Great Reset." Blending welfare state socialism and monopoly capitalism, this would systematically eliminate a fundamental bulwark of personal independence and freedom--the universal right to, and rights of, private property. Is the Great Reset the malevolent scheme of a vast global elite to control the lives of ordinary people or a well-intentioned but dangerously misguided approach to correct systemic ills? Regardless, there is a question we all must ask: how will the dignity, freedom, and power of each human person be protected and promoted when universal human rights and their Transcendent Source have been rendered irrelevant? In The Greater Reset, Greaney and Brohawn trace the historical, religious, political, and economic roots of humanity's perilous condition and how returning to God-given, universal principles of natural law, with equal access to the institutions of the common good, can help build a more just, liberating, prosperous, and hopeful future for every person.

Book Description
"In 1662 Pufendorf was appointed to the first modern professorship in natural law (at the University of Heidelberg). In 1670 he became professor of natural law at the University of Lund in Sweden. First published in 1672, this is his principle work and a landmark in the history of natural and international law. Beginning with a consideration of fundamental legal ideas and their various divisions, Pufendorf proceeded to a discussion of the validity of customs, the doctrines of necessity and innate human reason. The work is significant in part because it developed principles introduced by Grotius and Hobbes. Unlike Hobbes, Pufendorf argued that peace, not war, was the state of nature, and he proposed that international law was not restricted to Christendom." -- Lawbook Exchange.
