Book Description
Shaker Mill Pond Dam consists of a gunite covered concrete and masonry spillway structure between approach channel walls and abutting earth roadway embankments. The overall length of the dam is about 50 ft. and its maximum height is 20.4 ft. There are two regulating outlets at the dam site. The dam is in fair condition, based on a visual examination of the structure. Several deficiencies, mainly due to deterioration, were noted. However, there was no evidence of settlement, lateral movement or other signs of structural failure of the dam, or other conditions which would warrant urgent remedial action. With the water level at the top of dam (level of Route 102 bridge deck), the ungated spillway capacity is approximately 1,600 cfs which is 6 percent of the test flood outflow.

Book Description
Stockbridge Bowl Dam is an earth embankment dam with a concrete and stone masonry spillway. The dam is approximately 340 feet long, with a maximum height of 19 feet. The spillway has a length of 28 feet. The spillway crest is 3 feet below the top of dam. There is a 350-foot long dike, with a maximum height of 18 feet, to the south of the main dam. The dike forms an approach channel to an outlet structure containing a sluice gate and a 5 1/2-ft. diameter outlet conduit. Based on the visual inspection, the overall condition of the project is judged to be poor. Visual observations made during the course of the inspection revealed deficiencies which require attention and should be corrected before further deterioration leads to a hazardous condition. Effects of reservoir storage would reduce the test flood inflow to an outflow of approximately 14,000 cfs which would overtop the dam by about 3.6 feet. Spillway capacity at the top of dam is 470 cfs which is less than 4% of the routed test flood outflow.

Book Description
Long Pond Dam is located on Long Pond Brook about two (2.0) miles above Green River, a tributary of the Housatonic River in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The dam is an earth embankment about 240 feet long with a vertical concrete core wall and a height of 15.4 feet, and maximum storage capacity at top of dam of about 700 acre feet. A concrete spillway with a crest length of 9.6 feet and a road bridge overhead is located in the right abutment; an 8-inch cast iron pipe drain near the center of the dam; one 10-inch cast iron water supply intake left of the dam center, and a second 14-inch cast iron water supply intake passes the left abutment. Water treatment facilities are located downstream of the left end of the dam. The pipe outlets are controlled by gate valves. The dam is in FAIR condition. The embankment is stable with no visible leakage. The dam top is not a uniform elevation and a few protective stones on the upstream face have fallen into the reservoir. Trees and shrubs are growing in the downstream slope of the dam. The spillway is in fair condition, but a stop log has been used to raise reservoir level for water works purposes and the approach channel retaining wall is tilting into the channel. The spillway and dam are adequate for 100 year frequency (1% probability) storm runoff though there would be little freeboard protection against wave action. A storm runoff of half probable maximum flood would raise the reservoir to about 0.9 feet above the top of the dam, assuming that the dam remained.

Book Description
Powder Mill Pond Dam is located on the Ware River approximately one mile upstream of South Barre, Massachusetts. The dam, reconstructed in 1908 to generate electric power for the Barre Wool Combing Company, consists of an upgated concrete spillway approximately 125 ft. long and 20 ft. high, a short emergency spillway and an outlet canal with two inoperative timber gates. The dam was extensively modified during the 1930's. Based on a visual examination of the structure, the facility is in fair to poor condition. Nevertheless, there was no evidence of structural failure or other conditions which would warrant urgent remedial treatment. Based on size and hazard classifications in accordance with Corps of Engineers guidelines, the test flood for this dam is the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). The PMF outflow of 48,160 cfs would overtop the dam by 5.15 ft. With the water level at top of dam, the main and emergency spillways can pass 17,940 cfs which is 37 percent of the test flood.

Book Description
The dam consists of an earth dike, about 250 ft. long on the left bank of the river, and a z-shaped stone masonry spillway about 212 ft. long. The dam itself is generally in good condition. There was no evidence of settlement, lateral movement or other signs of structural failure. It is small in size with a high hazard potential.

Book Description
Mill Pond Dam is an earth embankment dam believed to have been constructed around 1900. The facility is used as a bridge across the Agawam River and to impound water for recreational purposes. The dam is about 285 ft. long and 16.5 ft. high. The dam has two spillways. The primary spillway is a concrete sluiceway located near the left abutment. A two bay stoplog structure located at the downstream end of the sluiceway controls flows through the facility. The secondary spillway is a 5 ft. dia. metal pipe culvert located on the right side of the dam. A stoplog structure having a weir length of 5.4 ft. is located on the upstream end of this spillway. An 18 in. dia. outlet passes through the dam near mid-point. Outflow is controlled at a 6 ft. by 8 ft. by 6 ft. upstream concrete intake structure. The dam and appurtenant works are judged to be in fair condition. There is no low level outlet for draining the pond. Seepage was noted at four locations. There was erosion of both the upstream and downstream embankments in the vicinity of the 18 in. dia. outlet pipe. Tree and brush growth is abundant. The test flood inflow is 3,420 cfs; the routed test flood outflow of 3,150 cfs would overtop the low point in the left abutment by about 2.0 ft. The spillways can pass about 7 percent of the routed test flood outflow without overtopping the low point in the left abutment.

Book Description
Pecks Pond Dam is a stone masonry and earth embankment dam approximately 490 feet long with a maximum hydraulic height of 31 feet and a top of dam storage of 155 acre-feet. The dam has a variable top width of between 8 feet and 20 feet and side slopes of approximately 2H to 1V. Discharge is over a grouted stone masonry spillway which has a length of about 40 feet. There is now a partial breach in the spillway. The bottom of the breach opening is 11 feet below the original spillway crest and 13 feet below the top of the dam. The dam presently impounds about 15 acre-feet. The storage capacity at the elevation of the test flood is 150 acre-feet. Based on engineering judgment and past performance of the dam and outlet works, the project is considered to be in poor condition. The breaching activities have left a portion of the embankment in an unstable condition and subject to erosion by discharge through the breach in the spillway. A 5-foot diameter penstock has been partially removed; however, discharge through the penstock is still possible and could cause erosion of a large portion of earth embankment. The spillway capacity at the top ot the dam is 108% of the test flood outflow. However, because of the structural condition of the spillway and adjacent walls, it is unlikely that the dam could safely pass high discharges.

Book Description
Glendale Dam is a concrete, gravity-type structure 240 ft. in length and a maximum of 32 ft. in height. The concrete dam is in fair condition. Based on the 'intermediate' size and 'significant' hazard potential classifications. The test flood for this dam is 1/2 the PMF. Glendale Dam is confirmed as having 'significant' hazard potential in accordance with Corps of Engineers guidelines.
