Book Description
I grew up in Pensacola...truly a beach girl, spending many days at Pensacola beach with family. As a little girl, I always wished for more and dreamed big. I refer to it as riding the waves of life. I believe in myself, I'm my own biggest fan and have no intention of ever giving up on my vision. I share the benefit of my personal development and gained wisdom, even during my darkest days. Standing in the light now is a blessing and a gift from God. I embrace this higher power every day. No one knows where their journey ultimately ends but I do know it begins with us. I have four sisters but I am one of two daughters born to Creola and Wiley Hickenbotham. Even though my mother became a single parent, after the separation, we grew up in a spiritual home. When my mother was well she took great care of each one of us. I can remember how close we were while living in Pensacola Village, low income housing, and in my eyes, this was the best place to live where I had great friends. In spite of my early beginnings, I learned that you make the best with what you have been given in life. I have opened up to the world and want you to know that you are not alone. Whatever you are going through in life I believe you will come out on top. May God bless you, Martha E. H. Franklin (Hickenbotham)

These women can experience a roller coaster of emotions including disappointment, loneliness, and fear. Sara Horn, the wife of a navy reservist, understands the challenges these women face. She knows how to talk about faith and spiritual truths through the filter of military life. In her encouraging book, Horn shares her personal stories, as well as wisdom and anecdotes of other wives from all branches of service. She reminds readers that: God is in control. Book Description
Why this devotional? I am just a "normal" military spouse and a mom to three kiddos. I have never had the intention of becoming an author and I have not taken any special college level training focused in English. The Holy Spirit put this devotional on my heart to write. As I listened for the words He desired to say through me, I could hear Him say... "Write this book for military wives. They're searching for someone to hold them when they are scared, to feed them when the paycheck runs out, and to rejoice with them when no one else understands. I am He, their Heavenly Father, and they are my chosen daughters. No other women can do what they are doing. When their husbands get orders from their unit, I will give them peace. I will give them strength to raise Godly children even when their husbands are not near. If they choose to be different from the rest, I will be their helpmate. They are my baby girls, and I want nothing more than to bless them." Why 91 days of devotions? My husband, as a Marine, had to go to basic training (boot-camp) for 12 weeks of intense physical and mental training. I believe we also need to dedicate ourselves to a similar period of mental and spiritual training to take on the critical role of being married into military life. Through the experiences God has carried me through, I've seen there WILL be days when we won't hear from our husbands and challenging events WILL take place. In those moments we choose to be frantic or we choose to go to God for direction. It was important to me for his devotional to be easy to read, taking less than 5 minutes per day. Each day begins with a scripture and focuses on relatable life stories common among military families. I know God placed these things on my heart to help bring us to that next level of faith and empower us as a Christian military spouse.

Book Description
Deployments are inevitable in military life. Short or long, relatively safe or extremely dangerous, time away from our men is standard issue. How can the family left behind best deal with the transition before and after deployment? And what should we do if he comes home different? Those who deal with long separations due to a career know that the first weeks back can be trickier than when you first began living together as a couple, particularly if the mission was stressful or life-threatening. While the Bible doesn’t specifically mention reintegration, God still gives us great advice on preparing our hearts and minds so that our marriage can thrive even through Reintegration.

Book Description
A field guide for military spouses who did not know what they'd signed up for. “You knew what you signed up for!” Megan B. Brown has heard that hint of condescension more times than she cares to remember. But did she? Honestly, no. She fell in love with a military man and had dreams of adventure. In much the same way, when we surrendered our lives to Jesus Christ, we really had no idea what we were “signing up for.” We were probably so overwhelmed by His love; we weren’t necessarily focused on the sacrifices that would follow. Five moves. Ten different houses. Four children. Two deployments to combat zones. Megan has discovered that this lifestyle takes its toll. She has sacrificed jobs, communities, friendships, and personal dreams. She has comforted children who’ve cried themselves to sleep over missing their father. She has bravely stood in the gap when her husband had boots on the ground somewhere else. In Know What You Signed Up For, Megan helps military spouses see that we’re right where we’re supposed to be—chosen for this specific time and place. We’ll find life in our roles as military spouses, mothers—or spiritual mothers. We’ll discover the passion of the gospel, the wisdom held in God’s Word, and the strengthening of His church. We’ll hear His call to be radically hospitable and unconditionally loving. Together, we’ll see what it means to follow Jesus, love people, and live on mission.
