Book Description
Over thirty-five years ago, Doug Fortenberry was near fatally injured in a motorcycle accident with a car attempting a U-turn on top of a steep hill. The accident left Doug paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair, along with painful lifelong injuries he continues to struggle with to this day. This collection of essays and anecdotes explores Doug's journey to recover from his injuries and embrace his new life as a paraplegic. Since that accident changed Doug's life, he doesn't dwell on the unanswerable question of, "Why do bad things happen to good people?" In an attention-getting style, he presents the possibilities of the future by asking, "Now that this has happened, what shall I do about it?" His no-nonsense story makes a powerful impact, helping people meet the challenge of adversity through his formula for success: faith + attitude + action + accountability = success and excellence. His compelling adventure reveals how he has turned a combination of liability and disability into an asset and personal strength. If you are willing, he is able to help anyone become their best.

Book Description
“A searing and emotionally gripping account of a young black girl growing up to become a strong black woman during the most difficult time of racial segregation.”—Professor Charles Ogletree, Harvard Law School “Provides important context for an important moment in America’s history.”—Associated Press When fourteen-year-old Carlotta Walls walked up the stairs of Little Rock Central High School on September 25, 1957, she and eight other black students only wanted to make it to class. But the journey of the “Little Rock Nine,” as they came to be known, would lead the nation on an even longer and much more turbulent path, one that would challenge prevailing attitudes, break down barriers, and forever change the landscape of America. For Carlotta and the eight other children, simply getting through the door of this admired academic institution involved angry mobs, racist elected officials, and intervention by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was forced to send in the 101st Airborne to escort the Nine into the building. But entry was simply the first of many trials. Breaking her silence at last and sharing her story for the first time, Carlotta Walls has written an engrossing memoir that is a testament not only to the power of a single person to make a difference but also to the sacrifices made by families and communities that found themselves a part of history.

Book Description
This story begins with the exciting and unpredictable journey of a young man as he comes of age as a traveling musician and poet. His journey takes him across the country through various subcultures and the musical underworld. He experiences the thrill of adventure and discovery but also succumbs to substance abuse and addiction, emotional and relational issues, brushes with the law, and eventually, a near suicide. Through spiritual healing and a long and hard look at the truth about himself and his purpose, he learns to live and love again. He comes to understand that life is about using the experiences God had brought him through—the hard times and the good, the graceful ones and the talents, and the knowledge He has provided—to live a life with true purpose, meaning, and peace.

Book Description
The Long Way "Home" The Testimony, is a first of its kind from the inner-city streets of Baltimore, Maryland. This narrative, non-fiction story is NOT a glorification of the dispair that plagues many urban districts throughout our country, but it is an informative, intense, detailed, urban centerpiece, that goes against conventional wisdom of what society may believe about the inner-city and many of its occupants. This story bridges a gap many believed could not be. It's a unique approach to the harsh realities of the streets, and to life as a whole. It's a story about change, decisions, and consequences. This is one man's story. It's an urban story about God. This is certainly not a street tale, lacking depth; one without significant meaning or positive goals. This story is about family, trials, perseverance, love, God, life, and its purpose. This read will erase any doubt, and convince all, that anything is possible for anyone. The author assures us all that this is a story told with two main goals in mind; to Glorify God, and to strive for a good future while loving every human being along the way.

Book Description
By this point in our lives (my target readers) weve all heard the old adage You cant go home. But what does it mean? As life winds down and the drone of existence begins to wane, I'm feeling an intangible desire or need to reach back into my past and reconnect with a by-gone time and people...living and/or dead. It feels like an elusive melody that seems distantly familiar, yet strange and unidentifiable. If all the above sounds like a premonition of the inevitable, I agree and accept that my time is ticking away. But its not about dyingits about going home! Im not afraid of dying, but I do struggle with the reality that I will no longer physically exist. I have to wonder if the term going home isnt a misnomer and maybejust maybe, were trying to return to Neverland (Fridays With Landon). When we were very young we searched for that elusive, utopian communityand studies have shown that in our declining years, we slowly revert to our childhood. Another line-of-thought is that its all just a mirage. We know and accept that a man can be dying of thirst, in the middle of the driest desert, and his mind will anesthetize him by creating the illusion of an oasis. If we can acknowledge that phenomenon (the minds coping mechanism) then it shouldnt be much of a stretch to reason that the elderly possess those same innate coping capabilitiesto ease their journey home. Of course their mirage would be about going homenot to a place, but to another time. What is the driver for this (apparently) universal pilgrimage? I have to wonder, even compare it to an addicts motivation (The Path to Addiction)one more trip down that path of pleasant memories even as the host is being sacrificed.

Book Description
First it was a media sensation. Then it became the #1 international bestseller A Long Way Home. Now it’s Lion, the major motion picture starring Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, and Rooney Mara—nominated for six Academy Awards! This is the miraculous and triumphant story of Saroo Brierley, a young man who used Google Earth to rediscover his childhood life and home in an incredible journey from India to Australia and back again... At only five years old, Saroo Brierley got lost on a train in India. Unable to read or write or recall the name of his hometown or even his own last name, he survived alone for weeks on the rough streets of Calcutta before ultimately being transferred to an agency and adopted by a couple in Australia. Despite his gratitude, Brierley always wondered about his origins. Eventually, with the advent of Google Earth, he had the opportunity to look for the needle in a haystack he once called home, and pore over satellite images for landmarks he might recognize or mathematical equations that might further narrow down the labyrinthine map of India. One day, after years of searching, he miraculously found what he was looking for and set off to find his family. A Long Way Home is a moving, poignant, and inspirational true story of survival and triumph against incredible odds. It celebrates the importance of never letting go of what drives the human spirit: hope.

Book Description
“We do not take a trip; a trip takes us,” John Steinbeck noted in his 1962 classic, Travels with Charley. In 2008, Bill Barich decided to explore the mood of the United States as Steinbeck had done almost a half century before. He set off on a 5,943 mile cross-country drive from New York to his old hometown of San Francisco on Route 50, a road twisting through the American heartland. Long Way Home is the stunning result of his pilgrimage. From the Eastern Shore of Maryland to the spectacular landscape of Moab, Utah, to Steinbeck’s own Salinas Valley, the book is filled with memorable encounters and rich in history and local color; a truthful, inspired account of a once-in-a-lifetime trip. It offers an incisive portrait of a nation divided and the grassroots dissatisfaction that ultimately catapulted Donald Trump into the White House. From the Eastern Shore of Maryland to the spectacular landscape of Moab, Utah, to Steinbeck's own Salinas Valley, filled with memorable encounters and redolent with history and local color, Long Way Home is a truthful, inspiring account of the country at a social and political crossroad.
