Book Description
Edgar wants nothing more than to live his life out loud. But telling the truth about his sexuality isn’t so easy in his traditional Mexican-American family, and his Amá has made it clear she won’t accept who he is. Things get even harder when Edgar’s macho father returns home after months away, and the house erupts into fighting and simmering tension. Edgar worries what would happen if he told his father the truth about who he is, and feels he’ll never fit in anywhere. Then Edgar runs into Alex, a popular football player at school. With Alex, Edgar feels happy and free, believing he might finally pick up all the broken pieces of his heart. But falling in love is more complicated than Edgar can ever imagine--and coming out might destroy the only life he’s ever known.

Tammie Dennis Allen Chapel AME Church Sacramento, California I was thrilled to write this review. I’ve grown to respect and see Dr. Roy Jones Jr. as a mentor, especially as a friend. I am always intrigued by Dr. Jones as he shares his love for the Lord, his knowledge, and also his journey. Speaking of his life journey, it takes God, family, ministry, and education to understand one’s personal journey. My Journey: The Family, The Army, The Ministry, Life and Education encourages us to stay the course despite the ups and downs of life, drawing on three phases that provide the basic combat training that promotes values. Dr. Jones has written a timely practical book fit for ministry in the twenty-first century. Book Description
If you take a good look at the cover of the book, you will see a picture of a little boy and his sister, taken in the early 1920s in the state of Oklahoma. That picture represents the beginning of his journey. Darrell Starks story begins with the first seventeen years of his life, including the hardships that he endured, along with the deep sense of perseverance and overwhelming capacity for love that he learned along the way. The second part of his journey begins when he enlisted in the United States Army and requested duty in the Philippine Islands. He was in the Philippines when World War II began. He fought in three of the four major battles in Bataan before it was surrendered by General King. At that time, Darrell Stark was captured and became a Prisoner of War of the Japanese for three and a half years. The third part of his journey begins with his liberation in September of 1945. At that time he returned to the United States to his loving and loved family, and struggled to come to terms with a multitude of physical and psychological problems. The fourth part of his journey begins when he met his wife and moved to the state of Connecticut, where he was a recipient of the kindness and confidence of many wonderful people. That helped him to get a start in life despite his war experience. As the third picture on the cover will indicate, he moved on to acquire a position of responsibility and trust and to maintain a successful and rewarding life.

Book Description
This is an excellent travelers' guide because it is written by people who have been there. The stories are enthralling and the authors' experiences enable us to understand the culture and perspective of people with autistic spectrum disorder. This book is recommended for anyone who has embarked on a journey to explore a part of our world that we have only recently discovered.' - from the foreword by Tony Attwood 'I had a great many of my hunches and hopes confirmed when I read the words of the generous parents, and their even more generous children, who contributed to this book...Most important, I learned it is possible to be inspired to see the glass as half full, no matter how many leaks there seem to be in the cup...I believe the community who reads this book will join me in thanking those who wrote it, for their courage, their wit and their plethora of ideas.' - from the foreword by Liane Holliday Willey For the families who have contributed to this book, living with autism spectrum disorders has been a journey of self-discovery. With honesty and humor, they describe the ways autism has affected their daily lives, the challenges they have faced and the approaches they have found beneficial. They share their practical and original strategies for dealing with issues such as helping children to develop empathy and humor, developing and maintaining friendships and explaining their autism spectrum disorders to other people. This book will be a source of advice and inspiration for families of children with autism and the professionals who work with them. It is practical, realistic and positive - autism is seen as something to be understood and celebrated. As 11-year-old Glen states in the Appendix, written by some of the children with autism featured in the book: 'I like myself and consider my difference something positive.' Linda Andron is a licensed clinical social worker, Adjunct Lecturer in Psychiatry and Bio-Behavioural Sciences and Clinical Instructor at the University of California at Los Angeles. She is the director of the UCLA Family Support Community Program and the clinical director of the Center for Asperger's Assessment and Intervention at the HELP Group.
