Book Description
Learn to communicate with your dog—using their language “Good reading for dog lovers and an immensely useful manual for dog owners.”—The Washington Post An Applied Animal Behaviorist and dog trainer with more than twenty years’ experience, Dr. Patricia McConnell reveals a revolutionary new perspective on our relationship with dogs—sharing insights on how “man’s best friend” might interpret our behavior, as well as essential advice on how to interact with our four-legged friends in ways that bring out the best in them. After all, humans and dogs are two entirely different species, each shaped by its individual evolutionary heritage. Quite simply, humans are primates and dogs are canids (as are wolves, coyotes, and foxes). Since we each speak a different native tongue, a lot gets lost in the translation. This marvelous guide demonstrates how even the slightest changes in our voices and in the ways we stand can help dogs understand what we want. Inside you will discover: • How you can get your dog to come when called by acting less like a primate and more like a dog • Why the advice to “get dominance” over your dog can cause problems • Why “rough and tumble primate play” can lead to trouble—and how to play with your dog in ways that are fun and keep him out of mischief • How dogs and humans share personality types—and why most dogs want to live with benevolent leaders rather than “alpha wanna-bes!” Fascinating, insightful, and compelling, The Other End of the Leash is a book that strives to help you connect with your dog in a completely new way—so as to enrich that most rewarding of relationships.

One Life, Many Chapters
Author: Margrit von Kleist
Publisher: FriesenPress
ISBN: 1460246551
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 147
Book Description
Margrit von Kleist was born in Berlin in 1924. At the age of five, she attended private school. Four years later, she went to a Lyceum (Girls secondary school) in Berlin where she studied another four years until Hitler's regime forced every student to become a member of the Hitler youth. Her family was not in favor of this and decided to send her and her sisters to a private boarding school in South Germany, where it was not an issue. Margrit stayed there until she finished twelfth grade. Back in Berlin, she attended the D. Neumann-Neurode School for three years where she learned her grandfather's methods of Therapeutical Physiotherapy for infants and toddlers. She had to deal with many heartbreaking and devastating issues during WWII, as everyone in Europe did. Shortly after the war, she traveled through Switzerland, where she fulfilled her lifelong dream of climbing the Matterhorn. In 1952, she went to Chile, South America, to visit her father, whom she hardly knew since he had left his family when she was a child. She stayed there, got married, and had two children, a girl, and a boy, both born in the City of Concepcion, north of Lota and South of Santiago. Margrit and her husband Aribert Baron von Kleist were extremely happy, and they enjoyed the country and the people for almost seven years. In 1959, they immigrated to Canada with $100.00 in their possession and two children, ages three and a half and six. Not speaking the language well and dealing with unforeseen challenges made their new life in Canada difficult. Aribert went to University to get his Master's degree in Canadian forestry and worked as an office cleaner with a big company late in the evenings to be able to pay the tuition. Margrit worked nights as a nurse's aide, so she could look after the children during the day. The couple supported each other to make it work. They couldn't afford University for both of them, and Margrit had to find an alternative approach to her profession. She did and was very successful for many years in Toronto until the couple retired to a beautiful little town on Georgian Bay....

For Blessing or for Destruction
Author: Abigail Skyz
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1512745901
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 199
Book Description
Abby never dreamed she would not be the one to finish raising her children. After all she was the one who had the encounter with Jesus Christ that changed her life forever. How did this happen, where did she go wrong? The reader will explore the aftermath from Abbys personal experiences as she walked through the floods that ravaged her home and how she survived to tell about it. Had this book been available in 1977, Abby would have bought it. It would have been a source to help open her eyes on the importance of identifying and healing her own past childhood hurts in order to become healthy emotionally and empowered to stay away from unhealthy abusive men. Abby would have learned how to proactively help her children, guiding them on the road to healthy, happy productive lives from the start. It is a delicate and awkward subject discussing an abusive marriage that entails child sexual abuse and the horrific after effects of such abuse. Could it be that God called Abby into His kingdom for such a time as this? Former co-host of the 700 Club Sheila Walsh, wrote a book titled Honestly, that book was a key factor in helping Abby to face and process her own past childhood trauma. All I can say is WOW this is as much a self-help book as it is a Memoir. Donna Vigil R.N.

Germanica
Author: Robert Conroy
Publisher: Baen Publishing Enterprises
ISBN: 1625794371
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 368
Book Description
Best-selling alternate history master Robert Conroy returns to World War II, this time for a dangerous last stand of the Nazis in the heart of the Alps. GERMANICA, _BER ALLES! Deep in the heart of Europe's Alps in the redoubt called Germanica, Nazi propaganda master Josef Goebbels and a battalion of Nazi zealots hold out against a frantic final Allied push to end World War II. With Churchill losing his election, De Gaulle consolidating his rule over a newly liberated France, and Stalin asserting his own nefarious land-grab in Eastern Germany, only America, led by its untried new president Harry Truman, remains to face the toughest of Nazi warriors as they hunker down for a bitter fight to the last man. Goebbels knows that if he can hold out just a bit longer, the war weary of the Western nations will back away from unconditional surrender for Germany, and he and his zealots can remain in power never to answer for their war crimes, and able to prepare for the moment when their hateful Nazi ideology is ready once again to rise from its alpine grave and strike at the heart of humanity! But there are Americans and a few stalwart Europeans just as determined to put a final stake in the Nazi heart. It is now up to heroes in the making such as newly minted O.S.S. operative Ernie Janek, commando Captain Scott Tanner, and formerly enslaved Czech "Jew" Lena Bobek, to bring down the dark Nazi menace growing like a cancer in the mountainous heart of the continent.
