Swallowing Jewels
Author: Aurealia N. Nelson
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 0595130550
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 110
Book Description
These are imaginative, evocative pieces, the author reveling in the semantic and stylistic possibilities of the English language. She is unconstrained by conventional forms, although her work remains both accessible and lucid; indeed, her work is marked by a strong literary vision and confidence of expression that brings further meaning to the work. Although it is very difficult to pick highlights from a collection as accomplished as this, I think the following passage illustrates some of the key elements of the author’s style and subject matter: Enormous, dark wood shining with a hidden secret. Rich cherry-red mahogany bark beckoned her with its treasure. The scrolls of ornament curled and uncurled into various shapes and forms—a grape vine, then a swallow-bird, then a deep pool that seemed to ripple when one held their head just so. Sheath stood before it, uttering the words of the unlocking spell. As this extract illustrates, the descriptions are at once striking and eloquently communicated, yet never descend into meaningless verbosity. The writing is intelligent and thoughtful and the author switches between subject matter, styles and forms with considerable grace.

Review from SCVIRTES: Follow the tormented wishes and dreams of absinthe, an irresistible brew with deadly side-effects. Poems and stories from the edge ... phantoms and furies to tingle your mind. What would it be like, yearning for something as it ruins your soul? Or reaching out for truths knowing they were never real? Read this book before bedtime, and see what kind of voyages it takes you on. Poem and Preface excerpt in "Absinthe" published in 2002 by: Xlibris Press. Copyright A. Nelson Preface Each one of us are murders of free will. Each one of us are rapists of time. We each seek to forge a memory- a lasting impression, upon the fabric of the void. I find solace in my memories. Of times long past and times to be made in the future that I remember yet I do not forget. It's all Maya and we are repeating a fruitless, useless, songless tune to the dance of a hapless god. This book is dedicated to escape and to freedom, and, ultimately- for us to achieve our own peace- whatever and wherever that may be. POEM EXCERPT: Dissection --- We pulled out all the emotions Restored all the virtues with pity Replaced the heart with a stone Tore out the eyes and made empty sockets of pain We righted the gun And cocked the trigger - Yet The bullet bled -- And I was left an empty hole :AN Please check my online website for more of my titles! www.aurealianelson.com Other Books: Swallowing Jewels (IUniverse Press) Non Traditional Families (IUniverse Press) The Split Brain: An Analysis of Schizophrenia (Iuniverse Press) Musings of a Mad Madam (IUniverse Press)

Author: Kerrie Legend
Publisher: KLD LLC
ISBN:
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 650
Book Description
A collection of inspiration, motivation, and WITF (what is this fuckery) moments from the eyes and fingertips of a self-published writer and author. Stories from behind the laptop after years of writing, editing, and hitting the upload button repeatedly have finally led to this book, sharing writerly wisdom, relatable situations to commiserate with, and funny anecdotes that could be shared online but probably shouldn't. "Because it's too long for a Thread, and we know how much Kerrie loves Threads." Kerrie wakes up every morning, and like clockwork, fixes her favorite coffee in the only white Yeti mug she owns, fires up the laptop and monitor, and checks in to see what's happening with the world. "Oh look, chaos. And we're still battling over whether romance needs to have a happily-ever-after. Haven't we settled this? Don't edit while you write? What is this fuckery? Where are my candy orange slices?!" So many words could be said. But there's a book to write, chapters to edit, copywriting to be completed, and five works-in-progress giving the side-eye. This is the life of a writer. Laugh, chuckle, drop your jaw in shock, and whisper "WITF" multiple times with relatable stories about writing and self-publishing as Kerrie travels around the United States. She discusses writing rituals and routines, musings, writing hooks and asking beautiful questions, emotional support snacks, social media, introvertism, and how to achieve expert-level procrastination skills when productivity is questionable at best. Chapters include: Proper, Good Uses of the Word "Fuckery" Traveling While Writing All the Fuckeries The Ink Trench Whiskey Writing Sessions The Apothecary Beautiful Questions Book of Afterwords Daily Struggle Bus Expert-Level Procrastination Ode to Writers Emotional Support Snacks Battle of the Brains: Past, Present, and Future Me Whip the WIP Creative Well Wishes Musings Hooks The Tormented Writers Society Sober Editing Wereotters and Book Dragons Navy Ink Rebellion Bad Design Toxic AF Writing Prompts The Craft Rituals & Other Spellbinding Things Routines and Showing Up Backlists and Money Artificial Non-Intelligence Marketing: the 4-ish Letter Bad Word Threads Magic Notebook The Dudes and Other Characters Writing “Experts” and "Titan"-ic Missteps
