Book Description
Shawnis is beautiful, she is brilliant, and she is a senior educator at the Centauri University in Atlantis. She is married, she is sinuous and the perfect age to have children but to her disappointment, she cannot. She is not alone. Natural pregnancies no longer exist on the planet Centauri. The species is being kept in existence through cloning. Shawnis is the unchallenged master at cloning embryos for implanting in females. She is on the board of several clinics that have that purpose only. But the population is declining at an alarming rate and she is not the only one concerned. A small but elite council has been formed to seek a solution. She is honored to be one of the six. If these, the best minds on Centauri fear their genus will be extinct in three thousand years. An ancient expedition discovered that the planet Centauri is a twin of a distant planet called earth. Centauri is far more advanced yet the populous of earth is expanding almost too fast. Perhaps an answer lies four light years away

Book Description
I wrote this book because I wanted to learn more about interstel lar flight. Not the Star Trek notion of tearing around the Galaxy in a huge spaceship-that was obviously beyond existing tech nology-but a more realistic mission. In 1989 I had videotaped Voyager 2's encounter with Neptune and watched the drama of robotic exploration over and over again. I started to wonder whether we could do something similar with Alpha Centauri, the nearest star to the Sun. Everyone seemed to agree that manned flight to the stars was out of the question, if not permanently then for the indefinitely foreseeable future. But surely we could do something with robotics. And if we could figure out a theoretical way to do it, how far were we from the actual technology that would make it happen? In other words, what was the state of our interstellar technology today, those concepts and systems that might translate into a Voyager to the stars? Finding answers meant talking to people inside and outside of NASA. I was surprised to learn that there is a large literature of interstellar flight. Nobody knows for sure how to propel a space craft fast enough to make the interstellar crossing within a time scale that would fit the conventional idea of a mission, but there are candidate systems that are under active investigation. Some of this effort begins with small systems that we'll use near the Earth and later hope to extend to deep space missions.

Book Description
The music for science fiction television programs, like music for science fiction films, is often highly distinctive, introducing cutting-edge electronic music and soundscapes. There is a highly particular role for sound and music in science fiction, because it regularly has to expand the vistas and imagination of the shows and plays a crucial role in setting up the time and place. Notable for its adoption of electronic instruments and integration of music and effects, science fiction programs explore sonic capabilities offered through the evolution of sound technology and design, which has allowed for the precise control and creation of unique and otherworldly sounds. This collection of essays analyzes the style and context of music and sound design in Science Fiction television. It provides a wide range of in-depth analyses of seminal live-action series such as Doctor Who, The Twilight Zone, and Lost, as well as animated series, such as The Jetsons. With thirteen essays from prominent contributors in the field of music and screen media, this anthology will appeal to students of Music and Media, as well as fans of science fiction television.

Book Description
Earth and the planet Centauri were created as identical, differenced now only by the direction of technology and unified government. Centauri has but one country and one language. Earth, of course, has multitudes of both. The primary contrast of the Centauri populous, due to a perfect immune system, is a life span of nearly one thousand years. This book is the third in a series, and the principle characters are the same as in the first two books. The story encompasses happenings from both planets and how they interact with one another. Foremost in this book is the genius Tesla. He thought himself unappreciated on Centauri and, on a whim, ventured to steal a tiny light-speed spaceship to seek proper recognition on the primitive planet of earth. It happened three hundred years ago, and the story progresses to the present. Life for Tesla was a frustrating struggle. He didnt fit in as the ageless thing was a detriment. He finally made a contribution when he was influential in the upbringing of his grandson, Nikola Tesla. Still, when the boy became a man, the two drifted apart.

Book Description
The story in Ratip’s debut novel revolves around the struggle of Turan Akova, who is a world-renowned pianist-composer, to prevent and eventually eliminate the extraterrestrial devil’s plans to dominate the world in a shocking and most audacious way. This is a heart-pounding suspense thriller with gruelling intensity. A monumentally scary and chillingly tense story. Italian poet Tasso’s words best describe Turan Akova, the hero of this novel: ‘Is it possible to transform a raging, devastating, destroying hurricane into a morning breeze, a mad sea into a charming lake, and lightning into a rose? I am speaking of the Turk. The Turk who is like a ruthless hurricane, a terrific sea, and a merciless lightning when attacking his enemy, is a morning breeze, and a clear lake with his friends or when facing a disarmed enemy. To change this charming breeze into a hurricane, this resplendent blue lake into a horrid sea, this rose with its fragrance of nobility to lightning would be indeed a blunder that would offend Nature itself...”

Book Description
What makes a musical work profound? What is it about pure instrumental music that the listener finds attractive and rewarding? In addressing these questions, Peter Kivy continues his highly regarded exploration of the philosophy of musical aesthetics. He considers here what he believes to be the most difficult subject of all--"just plain music; music unaccompanied by text, title, subject, program, or plot; in other words, music alone."
