Book Description
Multithreaded computer architecture has emerged as one of the most promising and exciting avenues for the exploitation of parallelism. This new field represents the confluence of several independent research directions which have united over a common set of issues and techniques. Multithreading draws on recent advances in dataflow, RISC, compiling for fine-grained parallel execution, and dynamic resource management. It offers the hope of dramatic performance increases through parallel execution for a broad spectrum of significant applications based on extensions to `traditional' approaches. Multithreaded Computer Architecture is divided into four parts, reflecting four major perspectives on the topic. Part I provides the reader with basic background information, definitions, and surveys of work which have in one way or another been pivotal in defining and shaping multithreading as an architectural discipline. Part II examines key elements of multithreading, highlighting the fundamental nature of latency and synchronization. This section presents clever techniques for hiding latency and supporting large synchronization name spaces. Part III looks at three major multithreaded systems, considering issues of machine organization and compilation strategy. Part IV concludes the volume with an analysis of multithreaded architectures, showcasing methodologies and actual measurements. Multithreaded Computer Architecture: A Summary of the State of the Art is an excellent reference source and may be used as a text for advanced courses on the subject.

Book Description
This book presents the proceedings of the First International EURO-PAR Conference on Parallel Processing, held in Stockholm, Sweden in August 1995. EURO-PAR is the merger of the former PARLE and CONPAR-VAPP conference series; the aim of this merger is to create the premier annual scientific conference on parallel processing in Europe. The book presents 50 full revised research papers and 11 posters selected from a total of 196 submissions on the basis of 582 reviews. The scope of the contributions spans the full spectrum of parallel processing ranging from theory over design to application; thus the volume is a "must" for anybody interested in the scientific aspects of parallel processing or its advanced applications.

Book Description
Petri Nets were introduced in the doctoral dissertation by K.A. Petri, titled "Kommunikation mit Automaten" and published in 1962 by University of Bonn. Petri Nets are graphical (the intuitive graphical modeling language) and mathematical (advanced formal analysis method) tool. The concurrence of performed actions is the natural phenomenon due to which Petri Nets are perceived as mathematical tool for modeling concurrent systems. The main idea of this theory was modified by many researchers according to their needs, owing to the unusual "flexibility" of this theory. The present monograph focuses on Petri Nets applications in two main areas: manufacturing (section 1) and computer science (section 2). These two areas have still huge influence on our lives and our world. The theory of Petri Nets is still developing: some directions of investigations are presented in section 3. And at the end there is section 4 including some infesting facts concerning application of Petri Nets in the public area: the analysis and control of public bicycle sharing systems. The monograph shows the results of research works performed with use of Petri Nets in science centers all over the world.
