Book Description
The Chemistry of Ruthenium is concerned with the chemistry of ruthenium, with emphasis on synthesis and structure. The discussion spans a wide range of fields, from coordination chemistry and organometallic chemistry to structural chemistry (of both molecular and extended lattices), electrochemistry and photochemistry, as well as kinetics and spectroscopy. Comprised of 15 chapters, this book begins with an introduction to the discovery and early history of ruthenium, along with its extraction and purification, isotopes, physical and chemical properties, and applications. The discussion then turns to the concept of oxidation state and a scheme for systematizing descriptive inorganic chemistry together with its applicability to ruthenium chemistry. Subsequent chapters focus on the chemistry of ruthenium(VIII), ruthenium(VII), ruthenium(VI), ruthenium(V), ruthenium(IV), ruthenium(III), ruthenium(II), ruthenium(I), and ruthenium(0). The book also considers ruthenium carbonyl clusters and nitrosyls before concluding with a review of the photophysics and photochemistry of tris(diimine)ruthenium(II) complexes. This monograph will be useful to students, practitioners, and researchers in the field of inorganic chemistry, as well as those who are interested in the chemistry of ruthenium.

Book Description
Born and initially developed in various industrial laboratories, mainly in U.S.A. and Gennany, homogeneous phase catalytic carbon monoxide hydrogenation and alcohols and their derivatives carbonylation and homologation, have generally been considered and reviewed separately in the course of their 40 years history without concern for common aspects in the chemical transfonnations and in catalysis. Thanks to researchers of Japanese companies participating in the National C 1 Chemistry Project (1980-1987) the scientific and technical approaches in this field have been unified and applied in parallel, in the light of some common aspects of the chemical reactions and mechanisms. Now, at a moment when research seems becahned, a general presentation and discussion of the most recent topics might be an useful basis for further development of this chemistry. To delimit and simplify the discussion of the chemical aspects and the nature of the catalysts involved, the present review is limited to reactions employing homogeneous metal complexes for the direct conversion of syngas to oxygenates and to the hydrocarbonylation of these last to homologous derivatives. Since the previous practically contemporary reviews by Dombek [in Adv. Organomet. Chern. (1983)] on CO hydrogenation and by the present authors [in Asp.Homog.Catal.(Reidel Pu.l984)] on alcohol homologation fully cover the literature up to 1982, here we mainly refer to work done after 1982, and consider the cited reviews as covering the historical development of research in the 1940- 1980 period.

Book Description
This annual review provides critical analysis of the literature on photochemistry and its applications for anyone wanting to keep up to date with the field. Combining reviews on the latest advances in photochemical research with specific topical highlights, this book is the primary resource for anyone wanting succinct and rich information. The volume starts with periodical reports of the recent literature on physical and inorganic aspects, including the molecules of colour, light induced reactions in cryogenic matrices, photobiological systems studied by time-resolved infrared spectroscopy, photophysics and photochemistry of transition metal complexes, recent advances in photocatalytic water splitting, and finally a chapter on time-resolved spectroscopy application of LFP to heterogeneous photocatalysis. Coverage continues in the second part with highlighted topics including, among others, transition metal complexes-based photochemotherapy, advances in polaritonic photochemistry, synthetic strategies based on halogen atom transfer processes and photochemical water oxidation using metal-based chromospheres. This volume will again include a third section entitled SPR Lectures on Photochemistry, providing examples introducing academic readers to a photochemistry topic and precious help for students in photochemistry.
