Conjugacy of $\mathrm {Alt}_5$ and $\mathrm {SL}(2, 5)$ Subgroups of $E_8(\mathbb C)$
Author: Darrin D. Frey
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 0821807781
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 177
Book Description
Exceptional complex Lie groups have become increasingly important in various fields of mathematics and physics. As a result, there has been interest in expanding the representation theory of finite groups to include embeddings into the exceptional Lie groups. Cohen, Griess, Lisser, Ryba, Serre and Wales have pioneered this area, classifying the finite simple and quasisimple subgroups that embed in the exceptional complex Lie groups. This work contains the first major results concerning conjugacy classes of embeddings of finite subgroups of an exceptional complex Lie group in which there are large numbers of classes. The approach developed in this work is character theoretic, taking advantage of the classical subgroups of Eg(C). The machinery used is relatively elementary and has been used by the author and others to solve other conjugacy problems. The results presented here are very explicity. Each known conjugacy class if listed by its fusion pattern with an explicit character afforded by an embedding in that class.

Automorphic Forms Beyond $mathrm {GL}_2$
Author: Ellen Elizabeth Eischen
Publisher: American Mathematical Society
ISBN: 1470474921
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 199
Book Description
The Langlands program has been a very active and central field in mathematics ever since its conception over 50 years ago. It connects number theory, representation theory and arithmetic geometry, and other fields in a profound way. There are nevertheless very few expository accounts beyond the GL(2) case. This book features expository accounts of several topics on automorphic forms on higher rank groups, including rationality questions on unitary group, theta lifts and their applications to Arthur's conjectures, quaternionic modular forms, and automorphic forms over functions fields and their applications to inverse Galois problems. It is based on the lecture notes prepared for the twenty-fifth Arizona Winter School on “Automorphic Forms beyond GL(2)”, held March 5–9, 2022, at the University of Arizona in Tucson. The speakers were Ellen Eischen, Wee Teck Gan, Aaron Pollack, and Zhiwei Yun. The exposition of the book is in a style accessible to students entering the field. Advanced graduate students as well as researchers will find this a valuable introduction to various important and very active research areas.

$\textrm {C}^*$-Algebras and Finite-Dimensional Approximations
Author: Nathanial Patrick Brown
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 0821843818
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 530
Book Description
$\textrm{C}*$-approximation theory has provided the foundation for many of the most important conceptual breakthroughs and applications of operator algebras. This book systematically studies (most of) the numerous types of approximation properties that have been important in recent years: nuclearity, exactness, quasidiagonality, local reflexivity, and others. Moreover, it contains user-friendly proofs, insofar as that is possible, of many fundamental results that were previously quite hard to extract from the literature. Indeed, perhaps the most important novelty of the first ten chapters is an earnest attempt to explain some fundamental, but difficult and technical, results as painlessly as possible. The latter half of the book presents related topics and applications--written with researchers and advanced, well-trained students in mind. The authors have tried to meet the needs both of students wishing to learn the basics of an important area of research as well as researchers who desire a fairly comprehensive reference for the theory and applications of $\textrm{C}*$-approximation theory.

Algebra, Complex Analysis, and Pluripotential Theory
Author: Zair Ibragimov
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3030011445
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 224
Book Description
This book features papers presented during a special session on algebra, functional analysis, complex analysis, and pluripotential theory. Research articles focus on topics such as slow convergence, spectral expansion, holomorphic extension, m-subharmonic functions, pseudo-Galilean group, involutive algebra, Log-integrable measurable functions, Gibbs measures, harmonic and analytic functions, local automorphisms, Lie algebras, and Leibniz algebras. Many of the papers address the theory of harmonic functions, and the book includes a number of extensive survey papers. Graduate and researchers interested in functional analysis, complex analysis, operator algebras and non-associative algebras will find this book relevant to their studies. The special session was part of the second USA-Uzbekistan Conference on Analysis and Mathematical Physics held on August 8-12, 2017 at Urgench State University (Uzbekistan). The conference encouraged communication and future collaboration among U.S. mathematicians and their counterparts in Uzbekistan and other countries. Main themes included algebra and functional analysis, dynamical systems, mathematical physics and partial differential equations, probability theory and mathematical statistics, and pluripotential theory. A number of significant, recently established results were disseminated at the conference’s scheduled plenary talks, while invited talks presented a broad spectrum of findings in several sessions. Based on a different session from the conference, Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems is also published in the Springer Proceedings in Mathematics & Statistics Series.
