Book Description
My project is a mixed-use building in the Third Ward, one of the most rapidly developing sections of uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. The program includes office and residential components over ground level retail. It is directly adjacent to two of the most significant developments on the horizon for the Third Ward, namely a new baseball park for the minor-league class AAA Charlotte Knights and an urban city park. These projects have spurred or encouraged other large-scale developments in the area, yet site at the corner, across the street from these coming attractions, is vacant. The purpose of my design is to contribute a mix of uses that will complement the park and ballpark and bring people to, and keep them in, Third Ward throughout the day, not just on game days but all year. In connection with the mixed-use mid-rise tower, an area master plan was created to integrate the neighborhood with the parks and plan the surrounding district for appropriate development.

Book Description
"This publication includes a series of projects designed by graduate students enrolled in two advanced architectural design studios at the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design during the Fall of 2015 and the Fall of 2016. The projects titled "Energy Efficiency Innovation Challenge" and "Green Parasites" both focused on developing sustainable building designs for the Third Ward. The Fall 2015 projects were part of a design competition aimed at developing prototypes for high quality dwellings with affordable utility bills. And the Fall 2016 challenged students to develop solar control devices that could be easily attached to existing neighborhood buildings to improve their comfort level, thus promoting more recycling of the historic housing stock." -- Page 9.
