ISBN: 3643909527

Pages : 150
Book Description
In November 2014, the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS) invited its member churches worldwide to examine firsthand each other's understanding of mission. The findings would then be used as a basis for an EMS Symposium on the theme of 'Mission Moves.' This was the starting point for four international EMS Team Visits to churches in Ghana, India, Indonesia and Germany, in 2015 and 2016, followed by the Symposium itself in June 2017. This book showcases some rare insights into what happens when churches with very different missiological backgrounds engage on a common path of internationalisation and growing together. Riley Edwards-Raudonat is the Africa Liaison Secretary at EMS. Originally from the USA, he is now based in Germany and has lived and worked extensively in Ghana. Uwe Gr¤be is currently the Middle East Liaison Secretary at EMS, and Executive Secretary of the Evangelical Association for the Schneller Schools. Before that, he spent many years living and working in the Middle East. Kerstin Neumann is the EMS Deputy General Secretary and Head of its Department for Mission and Partnership. Before assuming her current post at EMS, she lived and worked in India for more than twenty years. Mmanwu and Mission among the Igbo People of Nigeria
Author: Adolphus Chikezie Anuka
Publisher: LIT Verlag Münster
ISBN: 3643910630
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 346
Book Description
The joy over the growth of Christianity in Africa is also a challenge to all concerned to help Christianity take roots, ennoble and become one with the cultural life of the numerous tribes of Africa. This missionary expectation is not yet fully realized in many local churches in Africa. From these perspectives, Adolphus Chikezie Anuka inaugurates a new brand of concrete, target-oriented emphasis on dialogical inculturation. In this book, the Mmanwu cultural institution of the Igbo people of south eastern Nigeria stands in central focus, opening itself to the influences of Christian values as well as speaking to the religious assumptions of Christianity. The theoretical results of this research work and its practical pastoral suggestions are both enlightening and appealing.

The Joy of the Gospel
Author: Pope Francis
Publisher: Image
ISBN: 0553419544
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 164
Book Description
The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage

The First World War as a Turning Point / Wendezeit Weltkrieg
Author: Frieder Ludwig
Publisher: LIT Verlag Münster
ISBN: 3643911378
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 252
Book Description
The First World War led to a fundamental reorganization of international relations. This had a profound impact on churches and mission agencies and their ecumenical networks. European Christianity was increasingly questioned. The shock was all the greater since the war alliances were formed without taking religious orientation into consideration. This volume examines the impact of the war on church and mission especially in Africa and Asia. The contributions provide a wide scope of historical analyses with a focus on the Hermannsburg Mission. The symposium was organized by the Ludwig-Harms-Kuratorium and the Fachhochschule für Interkulturelle Theologie Hermannsburg in 2018.

The QUR’AN and the CROSS
Author: John O'Brien
Publisher: LIT Verlag Münster
ISBN: 3643910827
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 298
Book Description
Muslim reflection on the Cross is dominated by the notion of a substitute being crucified in Jesus' place - something never mentioned in the Qur'an. Reliant on repetition of decontextualized, lexicographical readings, it does scant justice to the spiritual depth and hermeneutical finesse of the Qur'an. Failing to note the ironic trope of the text, it conceptualizes the supremacy of God in merely this-worldly terms, reducing divine mystery to the mythical and the banal. Far from explaining Qur'an 4:157, Substitutionism obscures and distorts it.

Book Description
This collection of studies by American and European scholars explores the various ways in which American evangelicals found their way to postwar Europe, what they did there, and how they were received. With attention to the American and European organizations that brokered their mission, the social and political settings that framed their activities, and the mixed results of their efforts, these studies provide a much-needed overview how an important twentieth-century style of Christianity "returned" to Europe.
