“A refreshing and unique coming-of-age story...a beautiful and necessary meditation on finding strength in one’s culture.” —Entertainment Weekly, Top Pick of the Month “A YA marvel that will shock breath into your lungs. If you loved The Wrath and the Dawn and Children of Blood and Bone, Mirage will captivate you.” —The Christian Science Monitor “This debut fantasy has what it takes to be the next big thing in sci-fi/fantasy.” —SLJ, starred review “Immersive, captivating.” —ALA Booklist, starred review In a world dominated by the brutal Vathek empire, eighteen-year-old Amani is a dreamer. She dreams of what life was like before the occupation; she dreams of writing poetry like the old-world poems she adores; she dreams of receiving a sign from Dihya that one day, she, too, will have adventure, and travel beyond her isolated home. But when adventure comes for Amani, it is not what she expects: she is kidnapped by the regime and taken in secret to the royal palace, where she discovers that she is nearly identical to the cruel half-Vathek Princess Maram. The princess is so hated by her conquered people that she requires a body double, someone to appear in public as Maram, ready to die in her place. As Amani is forced into her new role, she can’t help but enjoy the palace’s beauty—and her time with the princess’ fiancé, Idris. But the glitter of the royal court belies a world of violence and fear. If Amani ever wishes to see her family again, she must play the princess to perfection...because one wrong move could lead to her death.

Book Description
First published in 1997. Image and Concept: Mythopoetic Roots of Literature here - finally - available in English, is devoted to the origins of Greek tragedy. In it, Freidenberg develops the notion that it was the very transition from thinking based on mythological images to the kind of thinking that makes use of formal-logical concepts that resulted in the appearance of literature. With the transition from mythological thinking to conceptual thought, the content of mythological images became the texture of the new concepts. The inherited mythological forms now were reinterpreted conceptually: causalized, ethicized, generalized, abstracted. This reinterpretation, in turn, brought about poetic figurality. Folkloric material began to be differentiated from the mythological images of the past into various disciplines such as religion, philosophy, ethics, literature, and art. Yet, differentiated and reinterpreted as it was, the folkloric material remained formally preserved in poetic image, structure, and plot.

Book Description
Scott Frost has settled into his isolated forest cabin. He embraces the simplicity of a solitary life in the Cascade Mountains of southern Oregon. On his 24th birthday, Scott’s world changes forever. An unexpected visitor, a door to a place where everything is the same...but different and a psychotic ex-con, draw Scott into a world of mystery and danger. Caught in the same place, between two different times, Scott has to rely on new friends and traditional skills to evade a madman to protect and preserve the life he’s come to love on “The Other Side.” Scott discovers the bonds of friendship and love. He’s forced to realize that the concept of “here and now” is relative and that evil exists where it seems least likely. “The Other Side” is a struggle between good and evil and the mind-bending concept of a single place separated by time.

Book Description
When I Finally Get There is my second book of poetry. All my words come from a place I cannot explain. But I do tend to think ahead and have always done so. As with my earlier book of poems, Sense of Words, I began writing after a near-fatal head injury in December 2011, which left me with amnesia for over four months. I began writing again in March 2012, and have not stopped since. Poems just come to me, and I can easily write eight in an afternoon. My thoughts are always looking into the distance and to faraway places. I won top prize for poetry from Scotland’s best-selling newspaper when I was ten years old, but didn’t begin writing again until after my head injury. I write about romance, love, nature, childhood, and life in general. Many say I am a born poet since I never studied poetry.
