Travels in the Middle Land
Author: Ajahn Sucitto
Publisher: Manhandle Press Limited
ISBN: 0992668522
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 311
Book Description
Theravada monks of the forest tradition, such as those in the monasteries of Cittaviveka and Amaravati in the South East of England, (where the author has been based since 1979), remove themselves from all attachments: to place, to belongings and, most importantly, to states of mind. They spend much of their time isolated in forests, but they also wander from place to place to both support their own practice and let their example be known. In this book, the places the author travels through are both physical and spiritual; the poems present them as blending. In the author's view, living in the present moment means that where a body and mind meet this very earth there is a place of awakening, mystery and beauty. This book is offered free by the author, and the publishers warrant that they will make no profit from the sale of this work. Travels in the Middle Land has been placed here as a gift from Manhandle Press Limited and as such the contents are unabridged and unedited. Any cover charge is solely as a result of the printing and/or distribution companies' mode of operation, (where such apply).

Xuanyuan Zhen, who had always been aloof and untouchable, coldly spoke, "This prince's face is meant for the imperial concubine to play with. What does it have to do with the Empress?" As soon as these words were spoken, the entire audience fell silent. Feng Zhen Yan's mouth twitched as he glanced at the man beside him. This Bonn love was simply too beautiful.

The fall and rise of the English upper class
Author: Daniel R. Smith
Publisher: Manchester University Press
ISBN: 1526157004
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 145
Book Description
The fall and rise of the English upper class explores the role traditionalist worldviews, articulated by members of the historic upper-class, have played in British society in the shadow of her imperial and economic decline in the twentieth century. Situating these traditionalist visions alongside Britain’s post-Brexit fantasies of global economic resurgence and a socio-cultural return to a green and pleasant land, Smith examines Britain’s Establishment institutions, the estates of her landed gentry and aristocracy, through to an appetite for nostalgic products represented with pastoral or pre-modern symbolism. It is demonstrated that these institutions and pursuits play a central role in situating social, cultural and political belonging. Crucially these institutions and pursuits rely upon a form of membership which is grounded in a kinship idiom centred upon inheritance and descent: who inherits the houses of privilege, inherits England.
