Book Description
This "Methods of Test" publication AAMA 501-94 is a revision of the previous publication, "Methods of Test for Metal Curtain Walls," AAMA 501-83. It is AAMA's intent to present in this one publication current methods of testing curtain walls, store front, sloped glazing, windows, and sliding glass doors. The test methods covered in this manual are used to check the structural adequacy of wall systems and their ability to resist water penetration and air leakage. The methods of laboratory testing of air leakage, water penetration and structural performance under static air pressure difference, as well as the method of field testing for air leakage and water penetration under static air pressure difference, are the methods prescribed the the American Society for Testing and Materials, ASTM. The laboratory test for water penetration under dynamic air pressure and the field check for water leakage using a hose and nozzle are methods prescribed by AAMA. Only those portions of ASTM standards relating to scope and purpose, requirements for test speciments, information from specifiers and test reports are reproduced herein.

State-of-the-art of Structural Test Methods for Walls, Floors, Roofs, and Complete Buildings
Author: C. W. C. Yancey
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Buildings
Languages : en
Pages : 148
Book Description
Based on information obtained from a review of the literature and from liaison with committees concerned with the development and revision of voluntary standards, it was found that there is a dearth of research information contributing directly to the development of test methods. Most of the research conducted on building components has been carried out either to observe the behavior of a sample of a particular type of construction or to evaluate the performance of a specimen against some performance requirements. However, helpful inferences can be made on the basis of some of the documentation, especially that contained in reports of full-scale tests on housing. An up-to-date status report of voluntary test standards activities (in the U.S.) was prepared through verbal and written communication with members of the technical subcommittees of ASTM Committee E-6 on Performance of Building Construction.

Architectural Glass to Resist Seismic and Extreme Climatic Events
Author: Richard A. Behr
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1845696859
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 273
Book Description
Glass is a popular cladding material for modern buildings. The trend for steel-framed, glass-clad buildings instead of those using traditional materials such as brick and concrete has inherent problems. These include, for example, the performance of architectural glass in extreme climatic events such as windstorms and heavy snow loads and also during earthquakes. This book reviews the state-of-the-art in glass and glazing technology to resist failure due to these natural events. Building code seismic requirements for architectural glass in the United States are considered first of all, followed by a chapter on glazing and curtain wall systems to resist earthquakes. The next two chapters discuss snow loads on building envelopes and glazing systems, and types and design of glazing systems to resist snow loads. Wind pressures and the impact of wind-borne debris are then considered in the next group of chapters which also review special types of glazing systems to resist windstorms. A final chapter reviews test methods for the performance of glazing systems during earthquakes and extreme climatic events. With its distinguished editor and team of contributors, Architectural glass to resist seismic and extreme climatic events is an essential resource for architects, structural, civil and architectural engineers, researchers and those involved in designing and specifying building glazing and cladding materials in areas where severe windstorms, snow and earthquakes are a threat. Considers the state of the art in glass and glazing technology to resist failure due to extreme climatic events Reviews specific building techniques and test methods to enhance glazing performance during snow storms, wind storms and earthquakes
