A Survey of the Feasibility of an Analytical Approach to Die Design in Closed-die Forging
Author: Serope Kalpakjian
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Dies (Metal-working)
Languages : en
Pages : 42
Book Description
The study surveys the present state of knowledge on the design of die sequences in closed-die forging with a view toward studying the feasibility of establishing an analytical procedure. The contents are comprised of (1) a review of present methods practiced in die-sequency design, (2) a review of factors involved in metal flow, and (3) examples of analytical work that might constitute the background for a more rational study of the closed-die-forging process. (Author).

Fem Analysis of Closed Die Forging
Author: Gessessew Likeleh
Publisher: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
ISBN: 9783848418800
Category :
Languages : de
Pages : 124
Book Description
Forging is one of the oldest metal working operations known and is used in making parts of widely varying sizes and shapes from variety of metals Closed die forging is one types of forging process in which different types metal are deformed plastically to obtain the required product geometry in a closed cavity that contains shape of the product. The physical phenomena of forging operations, which numerous advantages it has, therefore, are difficult to express with quantitative relationships. The metal flow, friction at the tool/material interface, the heat generation and transfer during plastic flow, and the relationships between microstructure/properties and process conditions are difficult to predict and analyze. Therefore, in most of the time products and their corresponding dies are made by trial and error to reach to the final correct product shape, which is a costly process as materials are wasted in the process as well as it takes considerable time of the expert involved in the operation. With the applications of finite elemental method some of the problems of analysis could be reduced significantly. FEM softwares are very much important in this regard.

Forging Equipment, Materials, and Practices
Author: Taylan Altan
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Blacksmithing
Languages : en
Pages : 512
Book Description
The handbook provides design engineers with up-to-date information about the many aspects of forging including descriptions of important developments made more recently by industry and/or government. The handbook describes suitable measures for in-process quality control and quality assurance, summarizes relationships between forging practices and important mechanical properties and compares various forging devices to aid in equipment selection. Attention is also given to describing practices for relatively new materials and emerging forging practices. (Modified author abstract).
