Book Description
Discussing every aspect of the fabrication, properties, and use of metal-filled polymers, this unique single-source reference covers the full range of current and potential applications -- from the insulation to the conduction level. Metal-Filled Polymers describes the most recent experimentation in determining the shielding effectiveness of plastics filled with metal ... compares the advantages of metal fillers over conventional nonmetallic fillers ... delineates the concept of interphase (which has recently found importance in predicting the mechanism of crack growth) ... and shows how the geometry and orientation of filler particles affect conduction, strength, and stiffness under various loading conditions. In addition, the book explains how the filler interacts with the matrix to improve composite properties ... and details the theoretical development of both mechanical and thermal properties. Encompassing the entire literature on their respective topics, contributions by eminent researchers focus on the very latest state-of-the-art data and relate findings directly to practical uses in current technology. Metal-Filled Polymers will prove a vital reference for plastics, materials, process, chemical, design, and mechanical engineers and managers in the plastics and metals industries. It will also be a useful resource for manufacturers of conductive composites for EMI shielding, and professional seminars and graduate-level courses in composite materials. Book jacket.

Book Description
This book covers novel and innovative technologies used in development, modeling, chemical/physical investigation and biomedical (in-vitro and in-vivo) trials of nanomaterials and nanocomposites. Novel methods for nanoparticle development and manufacturing are presented, as well as their safety and promising applications. In addition, the book highlights new frontiers in the use of metal / metal oxide nanoparticles, hierarchical nanostructures and organic coatings as sensors for detecting gases, inorganic and organic materials, including biosensors for bacteria and cancers. Organic nanoparticle composites for medical applications (tissue engineering, tissue replacement, regeneration, etc.), including hydroxyapatite NPs, are also covered, together with related in-vitro and preclinical investigations. In closing, the book shares recent findings on orthopedic and dental implant coatings using nanoparticles, their biological efficacy and safety.

Book Description
This book represents the proceedings of the First International Conference on Frontiers of Polymer Research held in New Delhi, India during January 20-25, 1991. Polymers have usually been perceived as substances to be used in insulations, coatings, fabrics, and structural materials. Defying this classical view, polymers are emerging as a new class of materials with potential applications in many new technologies. They also offer challenging opportunities for fundamental research. Recognizing a tremendous growth in world wide interest in polymer research and technology, a truly global "1st International Conference on Frontiers of Polymer Research" was organized by P. N. Prasad (SUNY at Buffalo), F. E. Karasz (University of Massachusetts) and J. K. Nigam (Shriram Institute for Industrial Research, India). The 225 participants represented 25 countries and a wide variety of academic, industrial and government groups. The conference was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Chandra Shekhar and had a high level media coverage. The focus of the conference was on three frontier areas of polymer research: (i) Polymers for photonics, where nonlinear optical properties of polymers show great promise, (ii) Polymers for electronics, where new conduction mechanisms and photophysics have generated considerable enthusiasm and (iii) High performance polymers as new advanced polymers have exhibited exceptionally high mechanical strength coupled with light weight.

Book Description
The development of the principles of electrically conductive polymer composites and the creation of a wide variety of such materials have had a significant influence on modern technology. This volume in the "New Concepts in Polymer Science" series is devoted to various aspects of the structure and properties of electrically conductive polymer composites. This monograph is an attempt to systematize modern ideas on the interconnection of the structure and properties of ECPCs. Specific attention is given to the influence of electric current on kinetics and the direction of chemical interactive processes between such systems and air oxygen. The book also contains a special chapter which is devoted to the practical applications of electrically conductive polymer composites. It should be of use and interest to researchers working in the field.
