Book Description
Excerpt from Messiah Pulpit, New York, Vol. 2: Sermons of M. J. Savage; October 8, 1897 Mv subject this morning is the atrophy of faculties and powers through disuse. My text you may find in the twenty-fifth chapter Of Matthew, the twenty-ninth verse: For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away. When, as a boy, I used to be poring over the New Testa ment, not loving it overmuch, as I do now, not under standing it very well, it seemed to me that this was a very hard saying: TO him that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him that hath not, or bath very little, shall be taken away even that which he hath. This did not appear to me to be the method of a just God, Of a loving Father pouring out bountifully upon peo ple already full, and withholding from those that were needy that of which they were so sorely in want. But, if we analyze this principle a little carefully, we shall find that it is no imposition of an arbitrary power, but merely the recognition of that which is, so far as we can see, neces sary and eternal in the nature Of things. Book Description
Excerpt from Messiah Pulpit; New York, Vol. 3: Being a Continuation of Unity Pulpit, Boston; Worry These organizations are never perfect; for the simple rea son that there exist no perfect people to make them of. They are never any too wise. They do not always follow the best methods of reaching the ends they would attain and sometimes they may even make the serious mistake of not seeking the truest end. But the organization, imperfect as it is, is better than none; and the work that is to be car ried out is more likely to be reached through this imperfect organization than as though it were left to the general and indefinite interest of unorganized individuals. Book Description
Excerpt from Messiah Pulpit, New York (Being a Continuation of Unity Pulpit, Boston): Sermons of M. J. Savage; Back Again to Work I find my text in the tenth chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, one clause of the thirty-third verse, Thou hast well done that thou art come. The man without a country could have found very little pleasure in travel. He had no point of departure, no place where his heart was anchored, and to which he might return. I have always found - ii I may use a phrase that sounds like an Hibernicism - that coming back again was the pleasantest part of going away.
