Book Description
This work originated in a series of lectures on meson and baryon ex cited states which I gave at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center in the fall of 1962. The notes of these lectures were issued as a Stanford Uni versity report (SLAC-13) in March, 1963. In the fall of 1963, I gave a revised set of lectures on meson and baryon spectroscopy at Indiana University. In both cases, the talks were given primarily for experi mental physicists. In preparing the notes of these talks for pUblication, I have added some introductory material on pions, nucleons, kaons, and hyperons. My main emphasis is on the experimental facts concerning the spectros copy of the mesons and baryons and on the use of conservation laws in their interpretation. I have either mentioned briefly or omitted entirely explanations which depend on dynamical models. Although I have given a number of facts about the electromagnetic and weak decays of some mesons and baryons, I have not discussed the theory of these decays. This is not a comprehensive review of the subject of the strongly interacting particles, and the list of references is not complete. Also, I have not always devoted time to a subject in proportion to its impor tance, but have spent more time on topics which have particularly interested me. Nevertheless, I hope that I have provided a useful summary of the most important facts about the spectroscopy of the mesons and baryons.

Neutral Currents Twenty Years Later - Proceedings Of The International Conference
Author: U Nguyen-khac
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814550981
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 498
Book Description
This conference celebrated the discovery of neutral currents in neutrino interactions twenty years ago. History will mark the 1973 decisive experiments as the turning point of a new era in theoretical and experimental physics. The participants in the discovery retrace its circumstances and genesis, and all the present aspects of its heritage are reviewed: particle physics (the standard model has to date not been invalidated by the most precise experiments at LEP), atomic physics and astrophysics.

Weak Interaction of Elementary Particles
Author: L. B. Okun'
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483139492
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 305
Book Description
International Series of Monographs in Natural Philosophy, Volume 5: Weak Interaction of Elementary Particles focuses on the composition, properties, and reactions of elementary particles and high energies. The book first discusses elementary particles. Concerns include isotopic invariance in the Sakata model; conservation of fundamental particles; scheme of isomultiplets in the Sakata model; universal, unitary-symmetric strong interaction; and universal weak interaction. The text also focuses on spinors, amplitudes, and currents. Wave function, calculation of traces, five bilinear covariants, and electromagnetic interaction are explained. The text also discusses charge conjugation, inversion of coordinates, and time reversal; weak interaction between leptons; and leptonic decays of strongly interacting particles. The text also explains strangeness conserving leptonic decays. Conservation of the vector current; electromagnetic properties of protons and neutrons; vector coupling constant; and relationships between weak and electronic form factors are underscored. The book also discusses weak interaction at small distances. Intermediate bosons, local four-fermion interactions, and statement of the problem are explained. The text is a vital reference for readers interested in the composition, properties, and reactions of elementary particles and high energies.
