Book Description
The Interactions Between Instinct and Intellect and its Impact on Human Behavior Length: 324 Pages The oldest musical instrument found is a flute made of bone that is estimated to be over 50,000 years old. Aristotle wrote the first book on arts, poetics. Since then it has been debated what art is at the highest levels. However, the world of philosophy admits that we still have not been able to articulate a definition for this seemingly simple word of art that would be acceptable to all. This shows that we do not understand it well enough to properly define it. This confusion stems from an inadequate philosophical understanding of it and, thus, we have been relishing that, which we do not comprehend. One of the reasons for this lasting confusion stems from the fact that we try to understand arts by studying art objects in the physical world. However, without being able to identify what in the mind longs for art in its metaphysical realm and why, we will never grasp it. This is why we have been mixing novel, painting, music, acting, perfume, architecture, Persian rugs and poetry and so on and try to devise a definition to define them all. Although they all are art, they have nothing in common. This shows but a small fraction of our profound misconception of the world of art. Based on what mental force longs for which group of arts coupled with the structure of the art forms, they divide into three distinct and logical categories of 1- Rhythmic Arts, 2- Imitative Arts, and 3- Abstract Arts. Each of these categories connects with a particular mental faculty. Then, through this understanding we also get to see that there exists an inequity in the sensitivity and excitability of these corresponding mental faculties and we experience different intensities of pleasure from different arts. For example, some arts, like live music performed even by average artists will invoke emotions in many who may scream, cry and even faint at concerts, but they never react that way by observing the works of true masters of arts such as Michelangelo, Picasso or others in museums. This results form the imparity in the sensitivities of the corresponding mental faculties mentioned above. This view carries us deep into arts as a phenomenon and helps artists to further refine their arts and the art lovers to appreciate it even more. In the realm of sports, we learn that all sports have three things in common, aiming, speed and power or endurance. Yet these are the skills required for successful hunting. Hunting and warring is one of the male instincts as they acted these responsibilities through out the human evolution. Because instincts do not disappear in time, they have survived and find expression in different sports, and thus aiming, speed and power find their way into all sports. Females not being pressed by this instinct did not hunt or fight wars. It is for these organic reasons that males so readily become sport fanatics at the dismay of the women in their lives.

Book Description
Have you every marveled at the poise, grace, and athleticism of champions in their sport? Do you find yourself asking, “What separates 'the best' from all the rest?” Why is it that some athletes make it look so easy while others struggle just to “take the shot”? Who would you call on to take the last shot in a basketball game, perhaps Michael Jordan? Who would you hand the ball to in the bottom of the ninth inning, with the game on the line, is it Mariano Rivera? If your team is trailing by six points with less than two minutes remaining in the game, would you trust the ball in Joe Montana's hands? Each of the athletes I listed above is a classic example of a champion. Their beliefs, attitudes, and leadership are second to none. In Mind Over Head Chatter, I share with you the research and insights into the makings of the world's best athletes over many decades, and what made them champions in their sport. You will learn their methods and secrets and what they did to produce at such high levels. You'll also discover how to Ignite your own passion, how to set goals, and develop the mental toughness to take your game to the next level. I wrote this book as much for myself as others, because I wanted to know, just like you, what separates the good from the great. I've participated in athletics my entire life, through Little League baseball, wrestling, and judo. I was a Little League All-Star, an AAU State Champion high school wrestler, and Sunflower State (Kansas) Champion Judo player, competing at the highest level nationally throughout college. I was “good” at every sport I played, but never “GREAT”. Mind Over Head Chatter gave me the insight into what I expected, but had never fully embraced…”Rule Your Mind, Or It Will Rule You.” The book is broken down into four sections; Section 1: The Driving Force – Finding Your Motivation, covers how to ignite your passion, your support systems and influences, what makes a champion, and creating a personal highlight reel in your head. Section 2: You Gotta Believe, helps you with setting goals, learning the three “C's” of Confidence, Courage, and Commitment, and how to train your brain for peak performance. Section 3: Getting Centered, covers your self-talk, visualization, breathing, and relaxation.Section 4: We Are the Champions, digs deeper into what sets five of the greatest athletes of all time apart from others in their sport. The athletes include Bruce Lee, Wilma Rudolph, Dan Gable, Nadia Comaneci, and Michael Jordan. So, sit back, kick your feet up, and enjoy Mind Over Head Chatter: The Psychology of Athletic Success.

Book Description
Much too often, the mental aspect of sport performance is overlooked. While all top athletes are in outstanding physical condition and technically exceptional, mental preparation is often what separates the best from the rest. This is just as true for young athletes as it is for pros and Olympians. And even though relatively few athletes will ever reach the top of their sport, the attitudes and life lessons learned from mental training—such as motivation, confidence, focus, perseverance, and resilience—will serve them well in all aspects of their lives. In Train Your Mind for Athletic Success: Mental Preparation to Achieve Your Sports Goals, Dr. Jim Taylor uses his own elite athletic experience and decades of working with some of the world’s best athletes to provide competitors of every ability with insights, practical exercises, and tools they can use to be mentally prepared when it really counts. His Prime Sport System explores the attitudes that lay the foundation for athletic success, the mental obstacles that can hold athletes back, the preparations they must take, the mental muscles they should strengthen, and the mental tools they need to fine tune their competitive performances. Most importantly, Dr. Taylor shows athletes practical strategies they can use to become mentally strong so they can perform their best when it matters most. Train Your Mind for Athletic Success goes well beyond the typical mental skills that are discussed in other mental training books. Readers will not only learn why mental preparation is so important to athletic success, but also where they personally are in each area thanks to brief mental assessments in each section of the book. In addition, each chapter includes exercises to show athletes how to incorporate mental training directly into their overall sport training regimen. The most comprehensive and in-depth book on mental preparation for athletes available, Train Your Mind for Athletic Success is an essential read for athletes, coaches, and parents.
