Summons and recognizance, dated January 29, 1703, written by John Leverett (1661-1724; Harvard AB 1680), judge of Probate Court for Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The document describes the court appearance of three men indebted to Anne, Queen of Great Britain, silversmith Francis Bassit of Charlestown, Captain Josiah Parker, and Thomas Swan of Cambridge, and the means of repayment of the debt, which included levies on goods and chattels they owned. The notice also contains conditions for voiding a recognizance issued to Bassit: he must personally appear before a justice of the peace, answer the charges against him, and accept the court's order. On the verso is an inscription that the recognizance was discharged on April 11, 1704.
