Book Description

Book Description
Resilience is a much-talked-about topic these days. The view that resilience is an important aspect of mental well-being has been gaining attention among health professionals and researchers. Tatyana Barankin and Nazilla Khanlou draw from the latest research and theoretical developments on resilience in children and youth and present it in a way that is relevant for a diverse audience, including parents, educators, health care providers, daycare workers, coaches, social service providers, policy makers and others. Among the unique contributions of this book is that the authors consider the development of resilience at three levels. Growing Up Resilient explores the individual, family and environmental risk and protective factors that affect young people's resilience: individual factors: temperament, learning strengths, feelings and emotions, self-concept, ways of thinking, adaptive skills, social skills and physical health family factors: attachment, communication, family structure, parent relations, parenting style, sibling relations, parents' health and support outside the family environmental factors: inclusion (gender, culture), social conditions (socio-economic situation, media influences), access (education, health) and involvement. Tips on how to build resilience in children and youth follow each section. The ability for children and youth to bounce back from today's stresses is one of the best life skills they can develop. Growing Up Resilient is a must-read for adults who want to increase resilience in the children and youth in their lives.

Resilient Health: Leveraging Technology and Social Innovations to Transform Healthcare for COVID-19 Recovery and Beyond presents game-changing and disruptive technological innovations and social applications in health and mental health care around the world for the post-COVID age and beyond, addressing the urgent need for care. In this first-of-its kind comprehensive volume, experts and stakeholders from all sectors - government and the public and private sectors - offer models and frameworks for policy, programming, and financing to transform healthcare, address inequities, close the treatment gap, and “build back better,” especially for under-resourced vulnerable communities globally, to “leave no one behind” and advance development globally. Contributions from world experts cover 8 essential parts: The context and challenges for resilient health systems to shape the future; developments and directions (AI, VR, MR, IVAs and more); an innovations toolbox, also targeted for special populations and settings (women, youth, ageing, migrants, disabled persons, indigenous peoples, in the workplace); the role of stakeholders (governments, the public and private sector); forums and networks; innovative financing; resources, lessons learned and the way forward. Addresses the “hot” topic today in the ever-emerging landscape of disruptive digital healthcare delivery, covering critical issues and solutions in digital health, big data, and artificial intelligence as well as benefits and challenges, and ethical concerns Provides case examples of transformative and radical solutions to urgent health needs, especially in remote low-resource settings as well as in less well-covered regions of Central and South America and MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Positions health innovations at the nexus of the global framework of Universal Health Coverage and of the United Nations Sustainable Developing Goals to achieve SDG3 - good health and well-being –at the intersection with climate action, gender equality, quality education, eradication of poverty and hunger, sustainable cities, environmental protection and others. Serves as an exceptional resource, reference, teaching tool, and guide for all stakeholders including civil society and NGOs, government, think tanks, investors, academia, researchers and practitioners, product developers and all policymakers and programmers involved in planning and delivering healthcare, including an extensive section of resources in the digital health space in various categories like publications, conferences, and collaboratives. Book Description
Examine the latest research merging nature and nurture in pathological development Developmental Psychopathology is a four-volume compendium of the most complete and current research on every aspect of the field. Volume Four: Genes and Environment focuses on the interplay between nature and nurture throughout the life stages, and the ways in which a child's environment can influence his or her physical and mental health as an adult. The discussion explores relationships with family, friends, and the community; environmental factors like poverty, violence, and social support; the development of coping mechanisms, and more, including the impact of these factors on physical brain development. This new third edition has been fully updated to incorporate the latest advances, and to better reflect the increasingly multilevel and interdisciplinary nature of the field and the growing importance of translational research. The relevance of classification in a developmental context is also addressed, including DSM-5 criteria and definitions. Advances in developmental psychopathology are occurring increasingly quickly as expanding theoretical and empirical work brings about dramatic gains in the multiple domains of child and adult development. This book brings you up to date on the latest developments surrounding genetics and environmental influence, including their intersection in experience-dependent brain development. Understand the impact of childhood adversity on adulthood health Gauge the effects of violence, poverty, interparental conflict, and more Learn how peer, family, and community relationships drive development Examine developments in prevention science and future research priorities Developmental psychopathology is necessarily interdisciplinary, as development arises from a dynamic interplay between psychological, genetic, social, cognitive, emotional, and cultural factors. Developmental Psychopathology Volume Four: Genes and Environment brings this diverse research together to give you a cohesive picture of the state of knowledge in the field.

Book Description
Many of us experience pain in our childhoods, and young people face trauma all over the world. How is it possible to recover? Do those abused always go on to hurt others? This incredible bestseller has overturned the way we view trauma, by showing how the extraordinary power of resilience can heal damaged lives. Renowned psychoanalyst Boris Cyrulnik has dealt with many young victims of distress and he relates stories of children who have been abused, orphaned, fought in wars and escaped genocide, yet who have not only survived, but grown in the face of adversity. By the way we deal with our memories and emotions, he shows, we can reshape our lives and transform pain into something stronger - just as a grain of sand in an oyster becomes a pearl. Resilience is not just about resisting; it is about learning to live. This life-changing book points the way towards hope and happiness.
