Long Live the Free Pericardium !
Author: Montserrat Gascon Segundo
Publisher: BoD - Books on Demand France
ISBN: 2810622434
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 106
Book Description
This book explains in a clear and simple way what life is and how it flows within our cells, between people and through people. It is a practical manual that will help us to "feel" life, to vibrate and breathe the life inside of our bodies and of all living beings. A key focus of this work is how emotional impact affects our pericardium, which is the membrane that envelops, maintains and protects the heart.

Frontiers in Mathematical Biology
Author: Simon A. Levin
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642501249
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 637
Book Description
From a mathematical point of view, physiologically structured population models are an underdeveloped branch of the theory of infinite dimensional dynamical systems. We have called attention to four aspects: (i) A choice has to be made about the kind of equations one extracts from the predominantly verbal arguments about the basic assumptions, and subsequently uses as a starting point for a rigorous mathematical analysis. Though differential equations are easy to formulate (different mechanisms don't interact in infinites imal time intervals and so end up as separate terms in the equations) they may be hard to interpret rigorously as infinitesimal generators. Integral equations constitute an attractive alternative. (ii) The ability of physiologically structured population models to increase our un derstanding of the relation between mechanisms at the i-level and phenomena at the p-level will depend strongly on the development of dynamical systems lab facilities which are applicable to this class of models. (iii) Physiologically structured population models are ideally suited for the for mulation of evolutionary questions. Apart from the special case of age (see Charlesworth 1980, Yodzis 1989, Caswell 1989, and the references given there) hardly any theory exists at the moment. This will, hopefully, change rapidly in the coming years. Again the development of appropriate software may turn out to be crucial.

The Monadology
Author: Gottfried Wilhelm Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781986704465
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 26
Book Description
The Monadology (French: La Monadologie, 1714) is one of Gottfried Leibniz's best known works representing his later philosophy. It is a short text which sketches in some 90 paragraphs a metaphysics of simple substances, or monads. In it, he offers a new solution to mind and matter interaction by means of a pre-established harmony expressed as the 'Best of all possible worlds' form of optimism.

System Identification
Author: R. Isermann
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 148313945X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 93
Book Description
System Identification is a special section of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC)-Journal Automatica that contains tutorial papers regarding the basic methods and procedures utilized for system identification. Topics include modeling and identification; step response and frequency response methods; correlation methods; least squares parameter estimation; and maximum likelihood and prediction error methods. After analyzing the basic ideas concerning the parameter estimation methods, the book elaborates on the asymptotic properties of these methods, and then investigates the application of the methods to particular model structures. The text then discusses the practical aspects of process identification, which includes the usual, general procedures for process identification; selection of input signals and sampling time; offline and on-line identification; comparison of parameter estimation methods; data filtering; model order testing; and model verification. Computer program packages are also discussed. This compilation of tutorial papers aims to introduce the newcomers and non-specialists in this field to some of the basic methods and procedures used for system identification.

AO ASIF Principles in Spine Surgery
Author: Irene Zintel
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9783540627630
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 260
Book Description
This book has become necessary as a consequence of the rapid expansion of the surgical procedures and implants available for spinal surgery within the "AO Group". We have not attempted to write an in-depth book on spinal surgery, but one which will help the surgeon in the use of AO concepts and implants. We con sider the practical courses held all over the world essential for the teaching of sound techniques so that technical complications and poor results can be avoid ed for both the surgeon and, in particular the patient. This book is a practical manual and an outline of what is taught in the courses. It is intended to help the young spinal surgeon to understand the correct use of AO implants. The indi- tions given will aid the correct use of each procedure. . It must be strongly emphasized that surgery of the spine is technically de manding. The techniques described in this book should only be undertaken by surgeons who are trained and experienced in spinal surgery. Certain techniques, in particular pedicle screw fIxation and cages, have not yet been fully approved by the FDA in the United States. However, throughout the rest of the world, the use of pedicle screws has become a standard technique for the spine surgeon, since it has been shown to improve fIxation techniques and allow segmental correction of the spine. The use of cages has become more and more popular, specifIcally as a tool of minimally invasive spinal surgery.
