Book Description
In 1910s England, sisters Ursula and Gudrun meet the intellectual school inspector Rupert Birkin and Gerald Crich, heir to a coal mine. The four become friends and soon enter into relationships with each other. Ursula and Rupert's well-balanced relationship contrasts with Gudrun and Gerald's tumultuous one, where jealousy drives them further and further apart. Women in Love, like many of D. H. Lawrence's books, faced criticism for its sexual content when first published in 1921. D. H. LAWRENCE [1885-1930] was one of the greatest English writers of the 20th century. Lawrence's depictions of erotica and sexuality led to several of his novels being banned and censored. He lived in self-imposed exile for four years due to the reception of his novels.

Book Description
"The Rainbow" tells the story of three generations of the Brangwen family, a dynasty of farmers and craftsmen who live in the east Midlands of England, on the borders of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. The book covers a period from the 1840s to 1905, and shows how the love relationships of the Brangwens change against the backdrop of the increasing industrialization of Britain. The first central character, Tom Brangwen, is a farmer whose experience of the world does not stretch beyond these two counties; while the last, Ursula, his granddaughter, studies at university and becomes a teacher in the progressively urbanized, capitalist and industrial world. "Women in Love" is a sequel to novel The Rainbow, and follows lives of the Brangwen sisters, Ursula a schoolteacher, and Gudrun a painter. They meet two men who live nearby, school inspector Rupert Birkin and Gerald Crich, heir to a coal-mine, and the four become friends. Ursula and Birkin begin a romantic friendship, while Gudrun and Gerald eventually begin a love affair. The emotional relationships thus established are given further depth and tension by an intense psychological and physical attraction between Gerald and Rupert. All four are deeply concerned with questions of society, politics, and the relationship between men and women. The novel ranges over the whole of British society before the time of the First World War and eventually concludes in the snows of the Tyrolean Alps.

Book Description
Women in Love - David Herbert Lawrence - "Women in Love" is a novel by British author D. H. Lawrence published in 1920. It follows the loves and lives of the Brangwen sisters, Gudrun and Ursula. Gudrun Brangwen, an artist, pursues a destructive relationship with Gerald Crich, an industrialist. Lawrence contrasts this pair with the love that develops between Ursula and Rupert Birkin, an alienated intellectual who articulates many opinions associated with the author. The emotional relationships thus established are given further depth and tension by an intense psychological and physical attraction between Gerald and Rupert. The novel ranges over the whole of British society before the time of the First World War. Ursula's character draws on Lawrence's wife Frieda, and Gudrun on Katherine Mansfield, while Rupert Birkin has elements of Lawrence himself, and Gerald Crich of Mansfield's husband, John Middleton Murry.
