Book Description
Containing papers from the ninth International Conference on Sustainable Water Resources Management, this book presents the work of scientists, practitioners and other experts regarding recent technological and scientific developments associated with the management of surface and sub-surface water resources. Water is essential for sustaining life on our planet, nevertheless its unequal distribution is a source of permanent conflict. It is predicted that population growth and irregular rainfall, due to climate change, may lead to more restricted access to water in certain regions of the world. This problem is made even more severe by human actions that can cause degradation to nature and the environment. These papers cover such topics as: Water management and planning; Water rights and accessibility; Water markets economics and policies; Climate change; Sedimental soil erosion; Irrigation; Water resources in arid regions; Ground water; Urban water management; Hydraulic engineering; Trans-boundary water management; Water, food and energy; Socio-economic aspects; Innovative technologies; Water and the community; Integrated water analysis; Wetlands as water sources.

Book Description
Excerpt from The Benthic Invertebrates of the Buffalo National River The description of biological parameters of a river system is a good foundation upon which further assessment of water quality can be built. Knowledge of energy flow, type of organisms present, trophic relations, and community structure within a system is essential informa tion used in analyzing the extent of natural or man-induced perturbations. The use of these biotic components of a system rather than physical and chemical parameters has increased in recent years because the organisms are more sensitive to change and are thus better indicators of fifeam conditions (karr. Book Description
Excerpt from Preliminary Reconnaissance: Water Quality Survey of the Buffalo National River The Buffalo River originates in the Springfield Plateau, the middle level of the Ozark Plateaus in Newton County, Arkansas. It flows generally eastward, dissecting the Springfield Plateau as it drops from approximately elevation 2000 feet in the headwaters to around 500 feet at its confluence with White River. Although 132 miles of the Buffalo River will be included in the National River System, an additional 10 to 12 miles of the river can be identified in the Ozark National Forest above the boundary of the lands that will be administered by the Park Service.
