Book Description
For Lucy Jane Bledsoe, wilderness had always been a source of peace. But during one disastrous solo trip in the wintry High Sierra she came face to face with a crisis: the wilderness no longer felt like home. The Ice Cave recounts Bledsoe’s wilderness journeys as she recovers her connection with the wild and discovers the meanings of fear and grace. These are Bledsoe’s gripping tales of fending off wolves in Alaska, encountering UFOs in the Colorado Desert, and searching for mountain lions in Berkeley. Her memorable story “The Breath of Seals” takes readers to Antarctica, the wildest continent on earth, where she camped out with geologists, biologists, and astrophysicists. These fresh and deeply personal narratives remind us what it means to be simply one member of one species, trying to find food and shelter—and moments of grace—on our planet.

Book Description
Lucy Fitch Perkins was forty-eight when she was approached by a publisher friend who, impressed by her talents as both an illustrator and writer, which he knew through correspondence, urged her to write. He was so earnest that she thought of an idea for a children's book the next morning, and she immediately set to work making sketches and preparing the idea for presentation. The publisher came to dinner at their house the next evening and she showed him the idea. His response was immediate "go ahead and write it, and I want it." That book was The Dutch Twins, the first in what became a long running and wildly popular series. Here we publish another in that series, this time the historical 'The Cave Twins'.

Book Description
Lucy Audubon lived and died in the shadow of her husband, the famous American artist and naturalist, John James Audubon. Few people today know her name, or that she made it possible for Audubon to complete much of his work. In Lucy, Mamie, author Nolanne OHair captures the spirit of Lucy Audubon and vividly portrays the era in which she lived. Timeless and enduring, this fictionalized account explores the life of an indomitable woman who struggles to maintain her family through continual hard times yet always provides the encouragement her talented, idealistic husband so desperately needs. Lucy, Mamie follows Lucys life beginning 1802, when her family moves to America from Derbyshire, England, and to her marriage in 1808 at the age of twenty. It depicts the details of Lucys life as she watches her husband transform from a peculiar artist and naturalist to a world-famous figure. This portrait not only recounts Lucys struggles and adventures; it unveils her heart and mind, brings her out of her husbands shadow, and gives rich insights into the life and times of a capable, resourceful pioneer woman.
