Book Description
What does it mean to love? Does love complete us, giving us purpose and meaning? Or does it tie us down and even harm us? Is erotic desire complicit in oppression, or could it deliver liberation? Are our desires extricable from the wrongs of our societies? And in today’s world, is love still worth the trouble? This book develops a critical theory of sexual love and friendship, offering profound new ways to understand the troublesome nature of eros. Federica Gregoratto explores the ambivalence of erotic love, which is at once intimately interwoven with heterosexism, racism, and neoliberal capitalism yet entices us with the tantalizing possibility of transformation. Drawing on a rich array of sources—from Frankfurt School critical theory to feminist thought and contemporary philosophies of emotions and affects, as well as poetry, novels, films, and music—she argues that love provides unexpected resources for political agency, resistance, and emancipation. Gregoratto makes a passionate defense of erotic freedom as an adventurous process through which we understand, together with others, who we are and who we want to become, both in our individual existences and in our social lives. Wide-ranging and daring, Love Troubles invites us to reflect on our fraught amorous experiences, showing why we should cherish and learn from them.

Blazingly intelligent, wickedly funny, and piercingly honest, a memoir that captures the perils and pleasures of girlhood, womanhood, and life itself. “One of my favorite books of the last few years.” —Cheryl Strayed “Sentence for sentence, a more pleasure-yielding midlife memoir is hard to think of.” —The Atlantic At mid-life, Claire Dederer developed a sudden yearning for jailbreak. In this exuberant memoir, she reflects on two periods in her life uncannily similar in their emotional intensity: her present experience as a middle-aged mom in the grip of unruly and mysterious new hungers, and her recollections of herself as a teenager.

Book Description
I've always been textbook people pleaser with third-degree middle child syndrome. Putting everyone else first with a smile on my face was working out pretty well for me when out of nowhere, Archer Bliss - a growly single dad- drops a bomb on my carefully constructed happy life. It seems my boyfriend has been cheating on me with Archer's girlfriend. Even worse? She's my coworker and secret archnemesis. The old me would have forgiven them and wished them the best. But the new me has had enough. So, I do the (ir)rational thing and dump my lunch all over the backstabbing cheaters. Then I plant a kiss right on Archer's very kissable lips right in front of both of them. That's right - I started a war by serving up a dish called revenge, which is best served with lips and lo mein. And now, I've somehow teamed up with this hunky beast of a man to get even with our cheating exes. At least it started that way, but now it's an excuse to spend time together... some of which is horizontal. The catch? He's got three kids who need him, and I'm still trying to figure out who I am. Starting a romance with each of us fresh out of a messy breakup is only asking for trouble. But the new me likes trouble. And Archer Bliss is trouble with a capital T.

Book Description
In the midst of spiraling ecological devastation, multispecies feminist theorist Donna J. Haraway offers provocative new ways to reconfigure our relations to the earth and all its inhabitants. She eschews referring to our current epoch as the Anthropocene, preferring to conceptualize it as what she calls the Chthulucene, as it more aptly and fully describes our epoch as one in which the human and nonhuman are inextricably linked in tentacular practices. The Chthulucene, Haraway explains, requires sym-poiesis, or making-with, rather than auto-poiesis, or self-making. Learning to stay with the trouble of living and dying together on a damaged earth will prove more conducive to the kind of thinking that would provide the means to building more livable futures. Theoretically and methodologically driven by the signifier SF—string figures, science fact, science fiction, speculative feminism, speculative fabulation, so far—Staying with the Trouble further cements Haraway's reputation as one of the most daring and original thinkers of our time.

Book Description
The star of public television's top garden show, Louise Eldridge is something of a celebrity. But when a dead body is planted in her backyard, she's in for notoriety of a different kind. . . Summer is the season for disquiet in Louise's Sylvan Valley cul de sac, and the tradition continues when an uninvited guest crashes a neighborhood soiree. Five years ago, Louise identified Peter Hoffman as the "mulch murderer." Now he's been released from a Virginia state mental institution. Leaving the party doesn't put enough distance between Louise and Hoffman, who has a thing or two to say to her—and actually has the nerve to follow her home to air his grievances. Shaken by the incident, Louise and family decide to take a little R&R at the beach in the hope that Hoffman will have moved on by the time they return. When they get back from vacation, Hoffman's moved on all right—but not in quite the way Louise had hoped. He's been missing for seven days, and Louise is the one who finds him. . .buried beneath her native azalea patch. Things go from bad to worse once the police learn that someone saw Louise planting one of the nights she was supposed to be out of town. With suspicion buzzing around her, she starts doing some snooping among her friendly—and not-so-friendly-neighbors, including high-powered attorney Mike Cunningham, who may have had a shady business deal going with Hoffman; Hilde, an apprentice gardener with something to hide; and Hoffman's own widow, whose relationship with her husband wasn't exactly a bed of roses. But before Louise can make any serious headway, another murder victim turns up—felled by a garden claw covered in Louise's fingerprints. Now, with more than just her television career in jeopardy, Louise will have to dig up some serious clues to bring a killer to light—before another person winds up as fertilizer. . .

RECOMMENDED TO 700 BOOK CLUBS NATIONWIDE BY Italian America Magazine Odyssey of an Etruscan Noblewoman A new classic about the ancient world! Forced on an unwanted journey by foot, cart, barge and ship, manipulated by powerful kings, cunning men, women and gods, Scribe Larthia faces torture, rape, exile, prostitution and the knife. Odyssey of an Etruscan Noblewoman is an action-packed adventure of an unusual woman’s survival in the sixth century B.C.E. when all scribes were male. Larthia--married, childless Etruscan noblewoman, disguises herself as a man to exercise her gift of scribing. Opening the Tomb of the Ancestors marks her fate. Abducted and forced on an unwanted journey, Larthia uses her charm, sex and scribing tools to outwit her enemies from Tarchna (modern Tarquinia), to Rome, Sicily and on to Athens and beyond through the turbulent Mediterranean waters. Against her will, she voyages to Egypt where she is initiated as priestess into the rites of the Cult of Isis. Helped by a mortal god and sponsored by the pharaoh, Larthia maneuvers her way back to Etruria only to find chilling surprises. Aided by a stranger, the merchant-vintner from Curtun, she must challenge destiny and discover where she will be for eternity. Rosalind Burgundy is to the Etruscans what Mary Renault is to the Greeks, and Colleen McCullough is to the Romans. SEE AUTHOR DISPLAY WHAT READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT Odyssey of an Etruscan Noblewoman Odyssey of an Etruscan Noblewoman is a wonderful narrative with realistic characters, filled with excitement and surprises to satisfy any reader. It is indeed a well-written book. Ralph Ferraro, Director The Italian American Press www.italianamericanpress.com ...Odyssey is a book that draws the reader in immediately and takes them deeper and deeper into life of early Italy, the people and their rituals. Through Burgundy’s creation of Larthia, we are treated to a unique experience of a noblewoman’s trials and triumphs despite much adversity. This book would go well with a feast fit for a king (or princess!), goblets of wine and an occasional cold wind blowing. Lane Wiley, Book Reviewer, Sierra Mountain Times Newspaper Twain Harte, California Odyssey of an Etruscan Noblewoman is a universal tale of a woman’s strengths, weaknesses and will to survive—that is as timely today as it was centuries ago during an era historically dominated by the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Charles K. South Palm Beach, Florida A real page-turner! I couldn’t wait to see how Larthia would deal with each new dilemma she faced, and in each case it was cleverly and unexpectedly. An exciting read. Along the way, the author includes tidbits of Etruscan, Roman, Greek and Egyptian cultures so that you learn about them almost without realizing it. I wholeheartedly recommend this book! Dean R., Durham, North Carolina The author’s passion for Etruscan history must have led her on a mysterious and very personal journey back in time. Odyssey of an Etruscan Noblewoman reveals Ms. Burgundy’s true inner self as she leads the reader onto her fantastic adventure and into the heart and soul of her character. A niche book that will go mainstream!

Book Description
Christian sexual ethics operates from a place of privilege when it does not consider those impacted by its moral prescriptions. A large majority of publications on Christian sexual ethics consider choices and images abstracted from lived conditions of the people called to make these decisions. As such, it leaves out many for whom sex is neither welcome nor a choice. As such, these same texts present images of sexual subjects that marginalize those that do not fit. As the book presents, sexuality, both Christian and otherwise, prioritizes a language of purity that strangles the life of those imaged impure. The present book remedies this emphasis through the language of iconoclasm that blasphemes these images and opens theological reflection beyond the boundary of image-based approaches. Utilizing a qualitative study of survivors of trafficking and those who grew up under evangelical purity teachings, Spaulding narrates sexual ethics in light of their testimonies and the theological resources of iconoclasm to articulate a more just and loving sexuality. The new emphasis on sexual ethics not only resists the prescriptions that create the conditions of sex trafficking but the creation of new communities capable of solidarity and mutuality with those caught in the web of trafficking.
