Book Description
Uveitis is the inflammation of the uvea, the middle part of your eye. One of the most frustrating aspects of getting a diagnosis of uveitis (iritis, pars planitis, chorioretinitis, panuveitis) is realizing how little information is available about the disease. When you have finished reading this book, you will have comprehensive information about uveitis. You'll understand what causes it, what the symptoms are, and how it is treated. You'll also know what other diseases are linked to uveitis, and get some specific information about how you can modify your diet to help manage your symptoms. I was diagnosed with uveitis in 1994. That was in the days before the internet was widely used, and finding information about uveitis was challenging, if not impossible. After I was diagnosed, I decided to start the Iritis Organization, an online community that provides information and support to other people who have uveitis and iritis. The reason I decided to write this book was to take the information that is available on my website and bring it all together into a single, easy-to-read book.

Book Description
Intraocular inflammation is particularly difficult to diagnose and treat, often resembling a complex puzzle of patient history, symptoms, imaging, and laboratory test results. Clinical Cases in Uveitis: Differential Diagnosis and Management is a unique, case-based resource designed to help you navigate the range of challenging manifestations and presentations that often mimic other diseases. More than 90 real-world uveitis cases are presented in a highly templated, easy-to-follow format, along with step-by-step guidance on the right patient questions, assessment, differential diagnosis, testing, management, and follow-up care. - Provides a variety of patient presentations and scenarios and unique clinical situations that mirror day-to-day practice. - Covers current diagnostic imaging modalities, including optical coherence tomography (OCT), optical coherence tomography angiography, fluorescein angiography (FA), and indocyanine green angiography (ICG). - Features diagnostic and management algorithms that assist in differential diagnosis and decision making for even the most complex cases, including those in which the patient does not improve as expected, prompting a reassessment of diagnosis and management. - Contains approximately 250 high-quality images, including color anterior segment photographs, color fundus photographs, OCT images, and angiograms. - Discusses distinguishing infectious from non-infectious inflammation; when and how to start systemic immunosuppressive therapy; diagnostic criteria and management of "white dot syndromes; pediatric uveitis; masquerade syndromes, including inherited retinal degenerations, malignancies, and paraneoplastic syndromes; and much more. - Includes the authors' specific thought processes and approach in particularly challenging cases. - An excellent resource and study tool for ophthalmology residents and fellows, those studying for oral boards, general ophthalmologists, retina specialists, and more.

Book Description
Uveitic Glaucoma provides an overview of the disease, as well as the pathophysiology, diagnosis, management, and an examination of the disease in specific populations. The term "uveitic glaucoma" is used to describe glaucoma associated with uveitis or ocular inflammation. It is an important, yet underappreciated condition, as uveitis and glaucoma separately account for a substantial proportion of cases of blindness worldwide. Their co-occurrence, however, provides an additional layer of complexity for patients and their treating ophthalmologists. In this publication, we emphasize a hands-on medical and surgical approach aimed at educating patients and practitioners with topic sections crafted in a concise, manageable way. Basic science concepts and disease pathophysiology, including chapters focused on aqueous humor dynamics, disease classification, and normotensive uveitic glaucoma, are thoroughly reviewed. A comprehensive discussion of diagnosis, clinical management, and treatment is also included. The stepladder approach in treating the underlying disease, uveitis, is explained. Other topics of clinical interest, including pediatric uveitic glaucoma, uveitic glaucoma and pregnancy, and off-label medication use provide treatment and management guidance for special patient populations. This textbook is essential for both comprehensive ophthalmologists and specialists looking for more guidance in dealing with this complicated disease.

Book Description
The ability to see deeply affects how human beings perceive and interpret the world around them. For most people, eyesight is part of everyday communication, social activities, educational and professional pursuits, the care of others, and the maintenance of personal health, independence, and mobility. Functioning eyes and vision system can reduce an adult's risk of chronic health conditions, death, falls and injuries, social isolation, depression, and other psychological problems. In children, properly maintained eye and vision health contributes to a child's social development, academic achievement, and better health across the lifespan. The public generally recognizes its reliance on sight and fears its loss, but emphasis on eye and vision health, in general, has not been integrated into daily life to the same extent as other health promotion activities, such as teeth brushing; hand washing; physical and mental exercise; and various injury prevention behaviors. A larger population health approach is needed to engage a wide range of stakeholders in coordinated efforts that can sustain the scope of behavior change. The shaping of socioeconomic environments can eventually lead to new social norms that promote eye and vision health. Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative: Vision for Tomorrow proposes a new population-centered framework to guide action and coordination among various, and sometimes competing, stakeholders in pursuit of improved eye and vision health and health equity in the United States. Building on the momentum of previous public health efforts, this report also introduces a model for action that highlights different levels of prevention activities across a range of stakeholders and provides specific examples of how population health strategies can be translated into cohesive areas for action at federal, state, and local levels.
