Book Description
The debate is no longer whether to use information and communication technologies (ICT) in education in Africa but how to do so, and how to ensure equitable access for teachers and learners, whether in urban or rural settings. This is a book about how Africans adopt and adapt ICT. It is also about how ICT shape African schools and classrooms. Why do we use ICT, or not? Do girls and boys use them in the same ways? How are teachers and students in primary and secondary schools in Africa using ICT in teaching and learning? How does the process transform relations among learners, educators and knowledge construction? This collection by 19 researchers from Africa, Europe, and North America, explores these questions from a pedagogical perspective and specific socio-cultural contexts. Many of the contributors draw on learning theory and survey data from 36 schools, 66000 students and 3000 teachers. The book is rich in empirical detail on the perceived importance and appropriation of ICT in the development of education in Africa. It critically examines the potential for creative use of ICT to question habits, change mindsets, and deepen practice. The contributions are in both English and French.

Book Description
This edited volume explores a range of educational effects on student learning that resulted from a long-term study using a creative visual arts curriculum designed for mobile media (smartphones and tablets) and used in art classrooms. The curriculum, entitled MonCoin, a French phrase meaning My Corner, was initially designed and piloted in a Montreal area school for at-risk youth in 2012. Since then, it has been refined, deployed, and researched across secondary schools from a range of socio-cultural educational contexts. This book is comprised of contributions from researchers and practitioners associated with the MonCoin project who address critical insights gleaned from our study, such as the social context of teen mobile media use; curriculum theory and design; influences of identity on creative practice; and specific strategies for creative applications of mobile media in schools. The purpose of this edited book is to offer art education researchers and teachers innovative curriculum for mobile media and the networked conditions that influence identity, space, and practice with and through this ubiquitous technology.

Book Description

Book Description
This handbook interrogates the foundations of media literacy and media education research from a methodological standpoint. It provides a detailed, illustrated overview of key methods used in the study of media literacy and media education. Further, it reveals the diversity of this research field and organizes this diversity by using three categories of investigation: media practices, educational initiatives, and prescriptive discourses. The book offers valuable reference points and tools for exploring the range of research methods used to study media literacy and media education and how these methods connect to epistemological stances, theoretical frameworks, and research questions. It serves as a guide for researchers who wish to position themselves, reflect on the methods they use or are considering using, and compare and contrast them against alternative or complementary approaches. After reading this book, readers will be better able to identify and define the objects of study in media literacy and media education research, the preferred ways of conducting investigations, the phenomena, issues, and dimensions that these are likely to bring to light, and the knowledge that they generate. This comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the field of media literacy education research methods will be of great interest to scholars and students of education studies, media studies, media literacy, cognitive science, and communication studies. Chapter 2 of this book is freely available as a downloadable Open Access PDF at http://www.taylorfrancis.com under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) 4.0 International license.

Book Description
This volume discusses the need for a major paradigm shift in educational practice in the current digital and globalized world. It establishes a bridge between theory and praxis and revisits the objectives of learning and its modalities within the context of a rapidly evolving global world order. This volume includes perspectives from different countries on creating a dynamic and adaptive education system that encourages creativity, leadership, flexibility, and working in virtual as well as inclusive environments. The four sections include chapters that discuss creating meaningful learning environments, preparing teachers for new age classrooms, the digital learning space, fostering change in classrooms, and importantly also includes cases and experiments from schools. The authors are teacher educators, teachers and researchers, and each chapter, while being deeply rooted in theory, is juxtaposed with informed practice, making the suggestions easy to implement in different settings. This is an important resource for researchers and practitioners associated with education systems in creating engaging, meaningful and future-ready education practices.

Book Description
The majority of people around the world live in multilingual societies, and so it follows that plurilingualism should be considered normal. This book proposes a flexible and adaptive framework for designing and implementing language learning environments and tasks, which will be useful for practitioners working in classrooms where many languages are already spoken. The authors begin by presenting a state-of-the-art review of current research on language learning, language teaching and multilingual language acquisition. This is followed by a qualitative review of 37 multilingual research projects, which are treated as case studies to inform the practical guidance that constitutes the remainder of the book. The information and practical framework contained within this book will be of interest to researchers, teachers and teacher educators.
