Book Description
The X-33 and X-34 technology demonstration programs currently under way by NASA may ultimately lead to a commercial reusable launch vehicle (RLV). The first flight test for the X-33 vehicle is planned for early 1999. With NASA fully committed to the development of this first-ever completely reusable vehicle, it is prudent for the Air Force to examine the potential benefits, requirements, and costs for a military transatmospheric vehicle (TAV). This vehicle would take advantage of technologies developed during RLV-related programs. Although similar in concept, a military TAV may differ significantly in design and in capability from an RLV produced to satisfy commercial market needs.

Book Description
The Army Life Cycle Cost Model for Tracked Vehicle Systems describes the methodology and rationale used for developing an estimate for all or part of the life cycle cost of a tactical tracked vehicle weapon system. The model is intended for use by cost analysts. It reflects the current doctrine for Independent Parametric Cost Estimates. Updates of this document will be made periodically as revisions or additions to the methodology require. The data base which supports the variables shown in the various equations throughout the model is published separately.

Book Description
This timely resource provides a history of the development of space weapons and warfare strategies and a comprehensive reference guide to the growing literature on the subject. Space Warfare and Defense: A Historical Encyclopedia and Research Guide provides comprehensive coverage of the development of space as a possible arena for warfare, exploring the military uses of space—past, present, and future—and specific details of actual space weapons systems. The encyclopedia spans the breadth of U.S. military space policy; comparable programs in the Soviet Union, China, and the European Union; and the full array of international agreements designed to regulate the military uses of space. In addition, the encyclopedia includes an extensive reference guide (nearly 40 percent of the book) directing readers to the essential literature on space weapons and defense systems produced by the United States, other governments, research institutions, and additional sources. At a time when space is becoming an increasingly important place of military competition and potential conflict, Space Warfare and Defense dispels the myths and examines the realities of what may become humanity's ultimate battlefield.

Book Description
The purpose of this thesis was to determine if the European Vehicle Buy Program is economical. Approximately 6,000 vehicles have been purchased through the program, with 3,000 more to be bought in the near future. A life cycle cost (LCC) model was used to determine cost. Historical costs were input into the LCC model. Extrapolation techniques were developed to project costs when historical data were not available. This analysis supported previous studies which concluded that the European Vehicle Buy program was economical. It concluded that the program's total cost will be $12.6 million (26%) per year less than alternative of buying and operating American vehicles. The program can be improved to save $13.4 million (28%) per year by buying certain ground vehicle types in the United States and sending them to Europe. The additional benefit of enhanced interoperability with NATO allies also lends support to continuing the European Vehicle Buy Program. Vehicle types analyzed included buses (intercity and school) and trucks (pickup, platform, dump, tractor, panel, forklift, tank, etc.) Originator-supplied keywords include: Offshore procurement, and military vehicles.
