Book Description
It is difficult to turn on the television or read a news story today without learning about how green and sustainable practices are being implemented throughout society. Libraries are not exempt from these broader trends. In some cases, libraries and librarians have been at the forefront of these efforts. Greening Libraries provides library professionals with a collection of articles and papers that serve as a portal to understanding a wide range of green and sustainable practices within libraries and the library profession. The book's articles come from a variety of perspectives on a wide range of topics related to green practices, sustainability and the library profession. Greening Libraries offers an overview of important aspects of the growing green library movement, including, but not limited to, green buildings, alternative energy resources, conservation, green library services and practices, operations, programming, and outreach.

Book Description
In this work, the unique power measurement capabilities of the Cray XT architecture were exploited to gain an understanding of power and energy use, and the effects of tuning both CPU and network bandwidth. Modifications were made to deterministically halt cores when idle. Additionally, capabilities were added to alter operating P-state. At the application level, an understanding of the power requirements of a range of important DOE/NNSA production scientific computing applications running at large scale is gained by simultaneously collecting current and voltage measurements on the hosting nodes. The effects of both CPU and network bandwidth tuning are examined, and energy savings opportunities without impact on run-time performance are demonstrated. This research suggests that next-generation large-scale platforms should not only approach CPU frequency scaling differently, but could also benefit from the capability to tune other platform components to achieve more energy-efficient performance.

Book Description
The handbook is intended as a guide for librarians, building managers, and others concerned with reducing energy use and peak electric power demand in public library buildings. It provides a technical overview of each topic, basic terms and definitions of energy and power use, and is a primer for the reader without technical background in the field. It provides strategies, which range from simple to complex and inexpensive to costly, for both new construction and renovation of existing facilities. The manual provides a checklist of the most cost effective energy management approaches for new construction. Subsequent sections provide a summary of the most effective strategies to improve the energy performance of the building for lighting, HVAC, the building envelope, hot water systems, and electrical systems.

Book Description
In an era marked by rapid technological progress, libraries find themselves at a crossroads grappling with the challenges posed by an information-rich yet digitally fragmented landscape. The conventional role of libraries, once the steadfast guardians of knowledge, faces disruption as we navigate through a sea of information abundance. This conundrum gives rise to a critical issue - how can libraries adapt and thrive in an environment dominated by the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI)? AI-Assisted Library Reconstruction is a compelling solution that promises to breathe new life into these institutions, making them more dynamic, accessible, and efficient in the face of unprecedented challenges. This book addresses the pressing issues faced by libraries in the age of information technology. It doesn't merely scratch the surface; it delves deep into the heart of the matter, providing an exploration of the integration of artificial intelligence in the reconstruction and revitalization of libraries. Through an in-depth examination of technologies, methodologies, and applications, it offers a guide for libraries to not only survive but thrive in this technologically charged landscape.
