Book Description
Samuel A. Burney, born in April 1840, was the son of Thomas Jefferson Burney and Julia Shields Burney. He graduated from Mercer University (then at Penfield, Georgia) in 1860. He joined the Panola Guards, an infantry component of Thomas R. R. Cobb's Georgia Legion, in July 1861. For the next four years he served in the Army of Northern Virginia both in Virginia and in Tennessee. Burney was wounded at Chancellorsville in May 1863, and as a result of his wound he was placed in disability in March 1864 and served the remainder of the war on commissary duty in southwest Georgia. After the war, Burney returned to Mercer's school of theology, was ordained into the Baptist ministry, and served as pastor of several churches in Morgan County. He was pastor of the Madison Baptist Church until shortly before his death in 1896. These letters of a college graduate written to his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Shepherd Burney are lyrical and beautifully written. Burney describes battles, camp life, theology, and the day-to-day dreariness of life in the army. This is an astounding collection of letters for anyone interested in the Civil War, or the South.

Book Description
The Book, Letters from South Carolina, is a collection of a total of seventy-five letters to the editor by author, Steven Hawkins, who started writing these letters in 2014. He had, before compiling his collected letters anthology, been published in several newspapers and magazines in South Carolina and North Carolina such as The Greenville News, Asheville Citizen-Times, The Anderson Independent-Mail, The State, The Columbia Star, The Journal scene, Charleston Magazine, Mountain Xpress, and Charlotte Weekly. He writes about the attractions and happenings of the local regional areas that he visited with his family and friends over the years. And he writes about the historic sites and folklore of different areas around the region that he visited over the years with his family and friends on vacation and school and religious trips. Hawkins has also since last year, 2018, recently written to national newspapers such as Detroit Free Press, The Washington Times, The Jersey Journal, New York Daily News, and Miami Herald about movies and music that he always listened to and grew up on. These faraway national cities he visited several times with his family on extended vacations over the years. Hawkins loves to live in his state, South Carolina, and he always loved to visit those “smiling faces and beautiful places” with his family and friends through the years. He hopes through his letters and editorials that people around the country and even around the world will be moved to come visit South Carolina and enjoy all the historic attractions, beaches, small towns, and happenings the state has to offer. He hopes that people will find South Carolina a fast-moving place and its industry and commerce truly a part of the New South. South Carolina is just right.

Book Description
Born in Vienna in 1881, Stefan Zweig was one of the most respected authors of his time. Foreseeing Nazi Germany's domination of Europe, Zweig left Austria in 1933. In 1941, following a successful lecture tour of South America and several months in New York, Stefan Zweig and his wife Lotte emigrated to Brazil. Despairing at Europe's future and feeling increasingly isolated, the Zweigs committed suicide together in 1942. Stefan Zweig was an incessant correspondent but as the 1930s progressed, it became difficult for him to maintain contact with friends and colleagues. As Zweig's correspondence all but ceased with the outbreak of World War II, little is known about his final years. Even less is known about Lotte Zweig, his second-wife, secretary and travel-companion. This book provides an analysis of the Zweigs' time together and for the first time reproduces personal letters, written by the couple in Argentina and Brazil, along with editorial commentary. Furthermore, Lotte finally emerges from her husband's shadows, with the letters offering significant insights into their relationship and her experience of exile.
