Book Description
Excerpt from Latin School Register, Vol. 44: May 1925 The Groton game on April 22 was a hard one to lose. Owens, who pitched the first three innings, went well for two innings, but was withdrawn in the third and replaced by Barrish after three runs had scored. It was the first time that he has ever attempted the role of pitcher and although he was hit freely in the third, he should prove a good pitcher when he has more experience. Latin School scored thrice in the first inning, but Groton went ahead in the scoring by getting four runs in the third inning and one in the fourth. The fifth inning, however, saw the count tied. Martin went to first on a'pass and scored on Joe Goode's three bagger, who in turn scored on Walsh's single. Book Description
Excerpt from The Latin School Register, Vol. 15: June 1896 On May 29, Cambridge High and Latin fol lowed the example set by the other teams, and beat us in a loose game. One of the Clarkson family pitched, but he was hit hard and given poor support. In two innings, especially the third, we allowed them to bat and score at will, and that explains the result. Eight of the errors in Boston's column were made inthe third inning; Maguire's were bad throws. Clarkson did what no other pitcher has been able to do; he struck Maguire out. Book Description
Excerpt from Latin School Register, Vol. 11: November, 1891 WE can say this much at least for our foot ball record this year, that it is not so bad as it would have been if it had been worse. WE have partly redeemed our reputation. It remains for next year's team to do as much better than this year's team as this year's team did better than last year's. That means bring ing the cup to our library. The manager is looking for the man who said we could not beat the English High. Book Description
Excerpt from Latin School Register, Vol. 11: April, 1892 The admission of the Somerville High School into the association by the committee of donors puts a new phase on the contest, as this school has the reputation of having a strong team. Still, this fact is offset some what by the refusal of the committee to admit the Cambridge Manual Training School. The refusal was based on the ground that the school does not prepare students for college, and we hope that this decision will hold good in the case of foot-ball next year. Book Description
Excerpt from Latin School Register, Vol. 53: November, 1933 The register, of course, is a chattel of Latin School. It is governed, completely and irrevocably, by the school. And the latter, after the manner of owners of property, is likely to become a trifle too sure of its possession. It is apt to take it too much for granted - to such an extent, that it almost completely overlooks it, and continues to rely on the force that has kept the paper going thus far, to maintain it further. The thought process mav be something like this: Oh, yes, the school magazine; it comes out once a month' sometimes good, sometimes not so good; sure, all schools have papers. Have you ever thought how that school paper must be put to gether? A paper does not come that way, you know. Each month it must be built up, gradually, painstakingly. And for material (the material that many think just exists) we must use - what you give us. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
