In-Situ Surface During Laser-Controlled Chemical Processing of Surfaces
Author: Alan Campion
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 7
Book Description
Experiments designed to assess the utility of several methods of surface analysis under reaction conditions are described. The goal of the research was to develop new methods with which to understand the mechanisms associated with the preparation of materials of electronic interest by chemical vapor deposition, with an emphasis on laser control of the reactions. The focus of the work was improve the sensitivity of unenhanced surface Raman spectroscopy through the combined use of ultraviolet lasers, Cassegrain optical systems and charge-coupled device detectors. Model systems to test these technical improvements were designed and an understanding of the factors that govern sensitivity has been achieved. Construction of a system for laser direct writing as well as the installation of a multipurpose surface analysis system are also described. Keywords: Unenhanced surface Raman spectroscopy; Surface chemistry; Electronic materials. (jhd).

Materials Research Society Symposia Proceedings. Volume 29. Laser-Controlled Chemical Processing of Surfaces Held on 14-16 November 1983 in Boston, Massachusetts
Author: A. W. Johnson
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 423
Book Description
On the dates of the 14th to the16th of November 1983, as part of its annual meeting in Boston, MA, the Materials Research society sponsored a symposium, Laser- Controlled Chemical Processing of Surfaces . The symposium was the Second Annual MRS event organized around the evolving field of materials processing by chemistry induced with laser radiation. This a field which is rapidly expanding to include a diverse variety of methods of activating or confining reaction for film deposition, etching, or doping of solid surfaces. The volume is organized according to the main topic areas of the symposium. The first section is devoted to laser-chemical-vapor-deposition reactions, driven thermally by pyrolysis or by dominantly thermal surface treatment. This includes reactions, variously termed LCVD and laser pyrolytic. A second section is structured around primarily photochemical or non-thermal photo deposition reactions. Electrochemistry driven by lasers is covered in the third section. The fourth section covers dry etching processes only. A fifth section includes papers from the expanding applications of laser methods for analysis of deposition and etching processes. In the sixth section, we include processes that are not easily classified within the preceding sections. A final section covers papers that are mainly analytic.

ISBN: 3662040743
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 788
Book Description
Laser Processing and Chemistry gives an overview of the fundamentals and applications of laser-matter interactions, in particular with regard to laser material processing. Special attention is given to laser-induced physical and chemical processes at gas-solid, liquid-solid, and solid-solid interfaces. Starting with the background physics, the book proceeds to examine applications of laser techniques in micro-machining, and the patterning, coating, and modification of material surfaces. This third edition has been revised and enlarged to cover new topics such as the synthesis of nanoclusters and nanocrystalline films, ultrashort-pulse laser processing, laser polishing, cleaning, and lithography. Graduate students, physicists, chemists, engineers, and manufacturers alike will find this book an invaluable reference work on laser processing.

Laser Spectroscopy and Photochemistry on Metal Surfaces
Author: Hai-Lung Dai
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9812831894
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 645
Book Description
Using lasers to induce and probe surface processes has the advantages of quantum state specificity, species selectivity, surface sensitivity, fast time-resolution, high frequency resolution, and accessibility to full pressure ranges. These advantages make it highly desirable to use light to induce, control, or monitor surface chemical and physical processes. Recent applications of laser based techniques in studying surface processes have stimulated new developments and enabled the understanding of fundamental problems in energy transfer and reactions. This volume will include discussions on spectroscopic techniques, energy transfer, desorption dynamics, and photochemistry.

Surface Processing and Laser Assisted Chemistry
Author: E. Fogarassy
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0444596682
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 495
Book Description
The papers in this volume cover all aspects of laser assisted surface processing ranging from the preparation of high-Tc superconducting layer structures to industrial laser applications for device fabrication. The topics presented give recent results in organometallic chemistry and laser photochemistry, and novel surface characterization techniques. The ability to control the surface morphology by digital deposition and etching shows one of the future directions for exciting applications of laser surface processing, some of which may apply UV and VUV excitation. The understanding of elementary proceses is essential for the design of novel deposition methods, with diamond CVD being an outstanding example. The high quality of these contributions once again demonstrates that the E-MRS is an efficient forum for interaction between research workers and industry.
