Labour Management Cooperation
Author: Leslie Margaret Darby
Publisher: Kingston, Ont. : Industrial Relations Centre, Queen's University
ISBN:
Category : Communication
Languages : en
Pages : 68
Book Description
Labour-management committees in unionized organizations in Canada were studied to determine their extent, nature and workings. Following a review of the literature, Labour Canada data, sample collective agreement LMC provisions and a survey were each examined. Results indicated that LMC's may be found in every industry in every jurisdiction in Canada, the greatest number are in Education and Manufacturing (although the federal government has the highest incidence). The Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Steelworkers similarly have the greatest number of LMC provisions while the Canadian Paperworkers have the highest incidence. Labour-management committees are generally established by collective agreement negotiations for the purpose of providing an open forum for the consultation between the parties on matters of mutual interest. Survey respondents on the whole found that the committee succeeds in improving communiations and leads to fewer grievances and better labour relations. The committee is also found, however, to be somewhat time-consuming and lacking in real authority.

The Current Status of Labour-management Co-operation in Canada
Author: W. Donald Wood
Publisher: Kingston, Ont. : Industrial Relations Centre, Queen's University
ISBN:
Category : Cooperation
Languages : en
Pages : 60
Book Description
From the Preface: The purpose of this research study is to present in non-technical language a general picture of the current status of labour-management co-operation in Canada ... Because of the broad scope of this subject and the limits of space, it has been necessary to present the research findings in summary fashion. Part I of the study clarifies concepts and issues in the area of co-operation and develops a general framework for the outline of Canadian experience in Part II. On the basis of this analysis, overall assessment and conclusions are summarized in Part III. It should be noted that the study is limited to labour-management co-operation in the unionized sector of the economy; co-operation schemes in non-union areas have not been examined.
